Buckhead Club Rotarian and guest speaker Mark Johnson amazed us today with his apparent mind reading capabilities. Despite Jeff Bass pointing to his own temple and warning “You don’t want to see what’s in this mind!” Mark opened his channels and correctly guessed the names of our childhood friends, deceased dogs and even pictures from our minds!  The takeaway he wanted us to leave with was “Be open to the possibility of things.”  Mark made reference to Jim, The Wonder Dog (1925-1937). Who knows? Maybe there really are such things as unicorns!

Jude Dooley, YMCA Director,  was all smiles when NC Rotary President Peter Jezerinac awarded a check for $500 to the Northwest YMCA. The Northwest YMCA has a philosophy that no one is turned away from any program due to the inability of the family to pay, and there was an immediate need for help. A special group of Day Campers took the initiative to bring in any change they could collect to help raise money to send kids to camp. Fellow Rotarians were glad to help support a program that spends time teaching kids about service and giving back to their community.

The North Cobb Rotary Club welcomed new District 6900 Governor Cheryl Greenway.  Cheryl  was accompanied by Assistant District Governor Bob Hagan,  Foundation President Bill Woulfin and Past District Governor Margie Kersey.

Cheryl talked with us about the Rotary International theme “Peace through Service” chosen by RI President  Sakuji Tanaka.  The peace he is referring to is that which comes from within. We’re asked to reassess our community, to look closely at the people and determine where the needs are.  We’re encouraged to focus our projects on helping others find that peace from within.

Image  Congratulations to Bruce Goddard on being named the North Cobb Rotarian of the Year! Past-president Marty Douglas remarked that Bruce's commitment and hard work to support the Children of Jesus Orphanage in Port-au-Prince, Haiti was just one example of Bruce's passion to serve. Last October, Bruce organized a charity motorcycle ride for HERO's (Health & Education Relief Organization), and Marty also thanked Bruce for all the behind-the-scenes work he does for the club year- round. Bruce has been involved with the District Annual Conference, the District Assembly and has helped with the New Generations and Interact Clubs that the North Cobb Rotary sponsors.
