Buffalo Rotary’s contest to pick the date and time when its car would sink through the ice ended on Saturday, March 17 at 11:14 a.m. Rachel Mendel had the closest entry with an estimate that it would sink at 11:10 a.m. On March 13th, this year’s contest became subject to controversy when the Minnesota Department of Public Safety contacted Buffalo Rotary claiming the contest was not in compliance with state gambling laws. In previous years, Buffalo Rotary had received approval for the contest from the Minnesota Gambling Board. This year the State Gambling Board again agreed the contest was appropriate. The Department of Public Safety disagreed and maintained that the contest violated the state’s gambling laws. At this point the two agencies continue to disagree about the contest. In an effort to resolve the dispute and avoid further controversy, Buffalo Rotary is offering to refund the entry fee for any participant in the contest. Any contestant who would like their money back should mail a self-addressed, stamped envelope by April 16, 2012 to the following address: Buffalo Rotary

The Rotary car made it back out of the water thanks to our wonderful Rotarian crew. Thanks to all of you, as well as to the sponsors. Rachel Mendel of Clearwater won with a guess of 11:10 a.m. She works at the Buffalo Hospital - so thanks to the Rotarians that sold tickets at the Buffalo Hospital! |

The Car Plunge contest ended last Saturday at 11:14 a.m. when the car went down. As you can see from this photo the ice is gone from Buffalo Lake - a rare occurence in the middle of March. Rotarians are seen rescueing the car from the deep. The car was retrieved for the safety of the public and the lake. It's unknown whether or not the car will ride the ice again next year. |

Here's the link for the City of Buffalo camera, so you can watch the car. The camera takes a still photo every 5 seconds, so you are seeing the latest and greatest. If you want to wait the 5 seconds to see the new view, you'll have to refresh your screen. That means that you'll need to hit the f5 key on your keyboard and it will automatically refresh and give you the next still photo. Good luck and watch for upcoming tips on what your guess should be. 12/21/2011 was the annual Rotary Christmas luncheon with holiday entertainment provided by the Buffalo High School Choir. The choir and accompaniment were great as always. The performance had some jazz holiday numbers which provided a nice groove. Thanks to Mike Walsh and the choir. Our Rotary President, Jackie Wurm is giving Mike a check to help with choir expenses. It's great to have the opportunity to help a good cause like the High School choir. |

Niels Olson is our new exchange student. He's from Sweden and enjoys meeting new people. He's attending Bufflo High School and has a wide range of interests. We had 4 visitors who came from Africa to visit ours and other local Rotary clubs. We had a great time bowling and dining at Huikko's. For some it was a brand new experience! |
