We had our second workday on Saturday, April 21 and finished up the Community Garden Project.  Many hands made for an easy day!  Thanks to everyone who provided assistance.  What a great project!.  These gardens wil provide produce for local food pantries, Senior Lunches and Kid's Katering Programs in the summer.  This project was made possible by a District Simplified Grant from Rotary District 7780 and the Rotarians of our Club.  .

On March 15th, PDG George Rice and Patty Rice, Membership Committee Co-Chairs for District 7780, spoke at our club meeting about the importance of membership.  Their goal this year is to emphasize M&M's, membership matters!  They provided a useful Membership Survey that we can utilize to identify potential members we could invite to a club meeting.  They also provided some great resources that we can utilize as we work to increase our membership.

The World Understanding & Peace Dinner was held Friday, February 17 at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland. Governor Gary emphasized the strength of the clubs and the work that it takes from all of us for peace to blossom. Each club had a chance to nominate a "peacemaker" from amid its ranks to be celebrated at the dinner.  We were very happy to nominate Mody Botros from our Club.

How does it work?

In celebration of Dr. Seuss' birthday, District 7780 Rotarians are challenged to participate once again in Read Across America Day, March 2, 2012. Think of the impact if every Rotarian read a story (Dr Seuss or not) to a classroom in their local school, preschool, or day care!

Gloria Morris has contacted Stevens Brook Elementary School and made the proposal, set up times to visit the classrooms, and we now have a great local project to reinforce the fun and importance of reading.  So far five members of our Club are participating.

That's it!

More than half of the clubs in our district participated in the recent past Rotary years.

Rotarians in District 7780 will once again make a difference on March 2nd, 2012!

Will you participate on Friday, March 2nd?

There's something that all Rotary club members have in common: We take action. As community volunteers, we reach out to neighbors in need. We build, support, and organize. We save lives. We work locally and globally.

Around the world and around the corner, the 1.2 million men and women of Rotary

  • Get involved in their communities
  • Connect with other professionals
  • Share their time and experience with young people
  • Support global causes, such as eradicating polio
  • Use their skills to help others

Whether you're a veteran volunteer or new to community service, we're looking for people like you.

Our theme this year is "Reach Within to Embrace Humanity."  We will continue to reach within our communities and beyond as we provide for local food pantries, support fuel assistance, provide materials to teach new parents about "shaken baby syndrome", recognize students with scholarships, present third graders with dictionaries, and raise money for those impacted by disaster and in need of clean water.  Would you like to be involved in giving back?

The Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club has been established for 20 years.  We meet on Thursdays at 7:15 a.m. at the Bridgton Alliance Church on Rte 117.  We welcome you to join us for a breakfast meeting and see what we're about.

Sincerely,

Cathy Sullivan
