FUTURE VISION PILOT OPERATIONS

With its Future Vision Plan, The Rotary Foundation has developed a new grant model that will help Rotarians make an even greater impact with their humanitarian efforts. The Foundation is currently conducting a three-year pilot of this model with 100 districts. All districts can begin using the new model in July 2013.

Although your district is not participating in the pilot, you can begin preparing now for the transition.

  • Read about the Future Vision Plan on the RI website.
  • Review a timeline for preparing your club.
  • Subscribe to Future Vision News, a free monthly newsletter from the Foundation.
  • Register for a free webinar on the new grant model.
  • Learn about scholarships in the pilot.

Please feel free to share these resources with other Rotarians in your club or district. If you have questions, ask us at leadership.training@rotary.org.

Thank you for your vital service in your own community and throughout the world. We look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

John Hewko

General Secretary

One Cause, Many Benefits

From The Rotarian, November 2011
Image
When Rotary International launched PolioPlus in 1985, the "plus" signaled the belief that the fight against polio would increase immunizations against five other diseases prevalent in children: measles, tuberculosis, diphtheria, whooping cough, and tetanus.

As time went on, the list of benefits grew.

Polio immunization campaigns created an avenue for their lifesaving health intervention such as the distribution of vitamin A supplements.

New equipment for transporting and storing vaccines made it easier to combat infectious diseases in developing areas.

The enormous network of laboratories and health clinics charged with identifying new cases of polio began to monitor the spread of other viruses as well.

And the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, which Rotary helped create, rose to international prominence as a model for public-private partnerships to address world health issues.

The "plus" in PolioPlus means that Rotarians are doing more than stopping the spread of polio in the last four countries in which it is endemic; they also are building a legacy of infrastructure and partnerships that will support the battle against infectious disease long after polio is gone.

Every year our district relies on the goodwill and support of the many Rotarians who serve on District Committees. These Rotarians are critical to the effective operation of the many programmes and activities in which our District engages.

I am looking forward to serving you as your District Governor next year, and in that role, I ask you to seriously consider serving on a District Committee, even if you have not previously served in such a way. In asking you to take that step, I recognize the many commitments you all have, but I am also very aware of the special pleasures that can be given and received by devoting some of your valuable time to District endeavors.

There are many District Committees and various ways to serve our District in 2012-2013. In order to provide some perspective on these District opportunities I have identified the following information for members of your Clubs

Please consider the various possibilities. You may want to indicate your interest in more than 1 committee, just indicate your strongest preference. We will make every effort to utilize your expertise in the best possible way.

Generally there is a three year limit for any one consecutive District Committee.

Personal detail information will be included in the 2012-2013 District Directory, and you would be able to peruse in the 2011-2012 what is included.

Please give reliable phone contact e.g. mobile, home or/and business, email address and postal address. Please indicate any item you would prefer not to be published in the Directory

Thank you for considering this opportunity to serve the District and I sincerely hope you will join me 2012-2013 as we work as a team sharing the task of supporting and enhancing the programmes of District 9640

District Committees that require your assistance are detailed on the attached Form.
