What makes a good service club? People get involved with service organizations for a variety of reasons. Some do it because their parent was a member. Some get involved to meet people in the community. Some do it because their boss told them to. And some do it because they want to give back. Hopefully, no matter what the reason you joined, once you did you found that all of these are reasons why you stayed.
A good service club should feel like family... open and accepting, nurturing and mentoring. A good service club should encourage you to be a better person both professionally and personally. A good service club should offer you a variety of opportunities to get involved. This could be on a committee, as a chair person, as an officer or board member or as a "worker bee" on a project. But a service club will also only be as good as you make it. If you aren't getting enough out of your service club, ask yourself why? Are there opportunities there that you aren't taking advantage of? Do you feel like you are to "new" or to "young" to take part in committees or run for board. Good clubs want participation by all members including new and experienced members. The more participation, the better the club.
Remember Rotary's motto- Service Above Self. If you aren't getting enough out of your Service Club... it's time you start!
Sincerely,
