Board member Debbie Reynolds was recently awarded "Woman of the Year" distinction in Mariko Yamada's 8th Assembly District. Debbie, 35, joined other state-wide honorees in receiving the award in a ceremony at the capitol on March 26. Reynolds is the administrator of Eskaton Wilson Manor, an affordable housing facility for seniors in West Sacramento.

ImageRotary Centennial Park has been an ongoing project since 1994 when Rotary member Kathleen O'Leary wrote a letter stating that the slate of land which sits on a busy corner of Jefferson Blvd should be "cleaned up" due to the fact that it is a gateway to West Sacramento from downtown.  Although the club has spent many days cleaning up and beautifying the park, it wasn't complete until this Friday when the sculpture was finally set in place.  The sculpture was created and donated by local sculptor Roger Berry.  Berry's work is very well known throughout the California region as his work can be found at over 30 prominent locations throughout the region.

A weeks prior to this happening, Rotarians from both the Mighty and Centennial Club worked together to set a foundation for the sculpture. (see video in story below)  A rubber matting was then laid down to make the area safe for children who are likely to climb on the area.  According to John Raney, the sculpture is engineered in a matter that it will be impossible to tip.

A lot of hard work and dedication was put into this project and finally, on November 18, 2011, Rotarian Kathleen O'Leary, as stated in her words, "Got her Rotary Dream."

The West Sacramento Rotary is a chapter of Rotary International, a worldwide organization of more than 1.2 million business, professional, and community leaders. Members of Rotary clubs, known as Rotarians, provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

Clubs are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds. As signified by the motto "Service Above Self," Rotary’s main objective is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world.

The West Sacramento Rotary meets Fridays at 12 noon at the
Club Pheasant, 2525 West Jefferson Blvd, West Sacramento.
