“Each proposed member’s name will be published in two successive club bulletins. If no written objection to the proposal, stating reasons, is received by the board from any member (other than honorary) of the club within ten (10) days following the first publication of information about the prospective member in the club bulletin, that person, upon payment of the admission fee (if not honorary membership), as prescribed in these bylaws shall be considered to be elected to membership. If any such objection has been filed with the board, it shall vote on this matter at its next meeting. If approved despite the objection, the proposed member, upon payment of the admission fee (if not honorary membership), shall be considered to be elected to membership.”

Project Amigo Vision was founded in 2000 by Dr. Kurt Wilkening of Medford to bring eye exams, medical care and eyeglasses to people in third world countries in desperate need of improved vision. Since inception, clinics have been conducted in Mexico, Thailand, Vietnam, Peru and the Dominican Republic.

The three goals of Amigo Vision are to provide vision care for those in need, partner with native citizens who can carry the program forward, and to involve friends and Rotarians in volunteer service around the world.

This year, in the Dominican Republic, Amigo Vision served 1,100 patients in six days, with 18 volunteers manning ten stations. Since inception, the program has dispensed over 25,000 pairs of eyeglasses to patients around the globe.

The presentation concluded with testimonials from several audience members who have participated in the program – proof that Rotary is a leader in community service throughout the world.
