Reimer Priester spoke to the Birmingham Rotary Club today. His host was Rtn. Doug Koschik. Reimer spoke of the paradigm shift of the DSO to acknowledge and engage their audience using social media, podcasts, and bringing the DSO to our local communities. |

President Elect David Zimmer presented President Chris Winans a beautiful wood plaque acknowledging her year of serving our club as president yesterday. The presentation occurred at the 2013 Year-End Party, hosted by Rtn. John Westerheide. Chris, in turn, presented David with a pin inducting him as our club President. We look forward to David's leadership and offer our full support! Thanks to you David and Chris! |

Rtn. John Westerheide hosted the 2013 Year-End Party at his home beautiful home today. A huge turnout of club members and family participated. BBQ and beverages added the right notes along with an utterly perfect evening of Michigan weather. In addition, President Elect David Zimmer presented President Chris Winans a beautiful wood plaque acknowledging her year of serving our club as president. Chris, in turn, presented David with a pin inducting him as our club President. A good time was had by all! Congrats, David, and Chris! And a big THANK YOU to John!

22-year member of the Birmingham Rotary Club, Patrick Grady, was conferred the 2013 Spirit of Rotary Award at a wonderful year end celebration hosted by John Westerheide at his home. Hello Rotarians! Let's all plan on showing President Chris how much we appreciate all she's accomplished in her year of service as president to our Rotary Club by attending the 2013 Year-End Party! Bring your spouse! Every year we gather at this time to celebrate and acknowledge our president with the year end President's Party. This year, Rtn. John Westerheide has graciously opened his beautiful home (again!) to our event. We have a down-home style BBQ with all the fixin's. And a surprise or two in store! All for only $25 per person! So Save the Date! And let Linda Hatfield or Mark Farlow know of your plans to attend as soon as possible-we want to provide our caterer with a head-count. Counselors from both Groves High School and Seaholm High School presented to the Birmingham Rotary Club today the 2013 STRIVE Scholarship winners. The moving program, led by Rtn. Patrick Grady, began with updates from the executives of both high school Interact Clubs. Birmingham Rotary Club funded four (4) university scholarships this year. The future is definitely in good hands! |

Several Birmingham Rotary Club members and their partners attended the District Conference held last weekend in the beautiful Royal Park Hotel in Rochester, MI. Well over 180 colleagues attended the reception and dinner on Friday night. These included President Chris Winans, President Elect Dave Zimmer, President Nominee Steve Volk, District Governor Nominee George Hedgespeth, Assistant Governor Elect Joe Bauman and Direcot of Membership for the District Betsy Reich. |

Next Financial Literacy service project is March 15th. This spring will be our third year of financial literacy presentations to the seventh graders at Davison Middle School in Detroit. We have been very well received and are making a difference to the students and their parents. In addition to the six presentations to the students, we also make three presentations to the parents, the first of which was made in November and the second this past week. Please see Calli Hayes Leslie’s e-mail below for her assessment of the outstanding job done by Linda Hatfield, Ron Ezell and George Stern. In that we expect to divide the students into groups of about 10-12 and team teach them with two presenters to each group, we will need about twelve “instructors” for each week’s presentation. And please don’t be concerned if you have not participated before as we will team you with an experienced instructor. The six meetings are scheduled at noon on the following Fridays: March 15th Please respond to Richard Shapack – Shapack@sgzlaw.com to sign up to participate in this important and rewarding activity. Information on where to meet to drive together to Davison School will be forwarded separately. |
