| Posted by Mark Ollila on Jun 11, 2013 Cathy Szajna was our speaker today. Cathy took blood pressure readings for those of us brave enough to put on the cuff. She discussed many current health issues facing our senior citizens. Cathy is a Registered Nurse who works for "Right at Home" as a nurse supervisor. She has been a Registered Nurse for over 30 years and has a Nursing Home Administrator's License. She enjoys working with seniors and specializes in Alzheimer's disease. Right at Home provides in-home care for those person's needing assisted living. Services provide are companionship/homemaking, physical assistance, hygiene, transportation assistance, wellness and medication management. Specialized care is available for Alzheimer's & other related dementia, hypertension/stroke recovery, heart disease, cancer recovery, hospice/palliative support. Minimum visit time is 2 hours and goes up to 24 hours, 7 days a week. Employee caregivers are carefully screened and even given the Orion Test to check for their compassion. Right at Home employees have workman's compensation insurance and are bonded. There are local franchises in southern Michigan and Right at Home has about 200 franchises in the United States. They just opened their first franchises in China, an important cultural event for China. Right at Home is private pay. The only insurance accepted is long term care insurance and the Veterans Aid and Attendance Benefit. Many veterans don't know they are eligible for this benefit. Cathy said she really enjoys working for Right at Home and is very dedicated to the people she cares for. Cathy, thanks for the blood pressure checks and a very informative presentation. Welcome to Rotary.

Kathy Szajna | | Posted by Mark Ollila on Jun 11, 2013 Still no auction results. We will report it as soon as it is available. | | Posted by John Curell on Jun 11, 2013 "We are this close" President Darris was back and opened the meeting at 12:21(a little late, can't get back in the grove) and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of our National Anthem. Present were Rotarians: Paul, John C, Wally, Herb, Mark, Ron, Jim, and our newest Rotarian, Kathy Szajna. Wally gave the invocation with a special thanksgiving prayer for his 90th birthday. John J., Ryan, Dan K., John G., Vince - we haven't seen you for a while. We miss you.
President Darris put out the challenge: he will pay $5.00 for everyone who can juggle three objects for 15 seconds at the President's party. Each of us who may not be able to meet the challenge, will have to pay $5.00, if the President is able to juggle three objects for 15 seconds! (We know he is already out $5.00 as Dino has already shown he can meet the challenge). But, Dino we need more help, let's make the President pay! Practice, practice, practice! Herb says it's still too early to know the auction results. Ron handed out a copy of the texas hold-em schedule. Our next scheduled night at Santino's is June 29 - July 2. We have the license. He also talked about getting licenses for the next Rotary year should Snookers not reopen. John C read a letter from the Macomb Rotary Foundation stating they had funded two of our requested projects. Junior High Student Assistance and Turning Point were funded for a total of $3,000.00 in matching money for next years budget (2013-2014 Rotary year). The food banks were not funded due to limited funds. Next golf outing planning meeting is Jun 21 at John L's. The Prez stressed the golf outing and the need for hole sponsorship sales. People need to look in the envelopes (packets) Herb gave to everyone. In there is all you need to sell hole sponsorships and golf tickets. Our profit is in the hole sponsorships and we need to increase the number from last year when we were down. Try your doctors, I did and sold two so far. Your favorite restaurant is also a good bet, if not a hole sponsor at least a gift certificate. WE NEED THEM NOW! Charity is not just a Tuesday lunch thing we need to work at it all week. Darris mentioned we were invited to functions at Pontiac and Royal Oak Rotary Clubs. A letter of Thanks was received from Doctors without Borders thanking us for the $1,000.00 donation we sent them. Happy bucks were received from Paul (he and Peggy celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary) and President Darris, (wife's wonderful directions to their daughter). Sargeant Darris querried us today on our knowledge of species native to Michigan. We got almost all of them correct! Cathy Szajna (our newest member) with soon to be Past President, Darris Brown. | | Posted by John Curell on Jun 11, 2013 Posted on May 7, 2013 Information on events in the District can be found on the District Website, www.rotary6380.org Please check this information regularly.
