Bellaire / Southwest Houston Rotary Club

BSWH Rotarians honored Thomas H. Wright of Bellaire’s Episcopal High School (EHS) as the 2013 Teacher of the Year at our June 13 meeting. Wright, who has taught AP Calculus at EHS for the past 25 years, was selected by the Rotary Board of Directors based on his exemplary contributions to advanced math and science education as well as his record of personal commitment to student growth and leadership modeling. BSWH Rotary will donate $250 to his charity of choice, St. Dominic's Village for Retired Religious near the Texas Medical Center. Wright said he was humbled and encouraged by the award. Donate for Victims of Oklahoma Tornado

Rotarians and friends of Rotary can help victims of the F5 Tornado that devastated Oklahoma on May 21 by mailing tax-deductible contributions to: Oklahoma Rotary, Bi-District Tornado Disaster Fund, PO Box 13800, Oklahoma CIty, OK 73113-3800. News accounts report at least 24 killed, including nine children, and at least 240 injured in the 17-mile-long, 1.3 mile-wide, trail of destruction. Bellaire Rotary Awards $4000 in Willbern Scholarships

Bellaire Rotarians helped get the newly reconstituted Willbern Heritage Foundation off to a good start by funding two $2000 scholarships presented during a late May ceremony at Tradition Bank Bellaire. The new Willbern Foundation is a Texas non-profit, organized and operated for the exclusive purpose of providing college scholarships to graduating area high school seniors who are enrolled in career technology work programs of HISD.

BSWH Rotary Speaker Price Interview on Channel 11

Popular Bellaire/SW Houston Rotary speaker, Fr. John Price, was featured on KHOU-TV Channel 11 News in late May, during a special 10p.m. interview on near-death experiences (NDEs). Price was also featured in the national CNN BLOG for his ground-breaking investigations into NDEs. He most recently appeared at our club in March to introduce his latest book, Revealing Heaven: The Christian Case for Near-Death Experiences based on more than 200 personal interviews with Jews, Christians, Buddhists, & a-religious people who have experienced them.
