Sayville Rotarians visited Stony Brook University August 16, 2012. Dr Yu-wan Wang, Associate Dean of International Admissions and a Rotarian, invited the Sayville Club for lunch and a tour to see the many great changes made recently at the New York State University. Members enjoyed a delicious lunch at the new Simon Cafe in the Mathematics Center. That was followed by a tour of the grounds of the campus. Alumni members of the visiting club had difficulty recognizing the old campus in the beautiful new architecture and landscaping. The tour ended at the Administration Building where club members listened to a presentatation by Dr Matthew Whelan, Dean of Admissions. We learned about the positive impacts of a major university on the local economy and well being of the surrounding population. Dr Whelan also gave out some interesting facts about procedures and the criteria used for student admissions at universities. | | Posted by Tony Brinkmann on Oct 25, 2012 Sayville Rotary is a proud supporter of the Rotary Gift of Life program on Long Island. Her father Nexhi Vllasaliu is pictured to her right. Standing directly behind him is Sayville Rotarian, Joe DeVincent (with beard). The camp was founded by Rotarians in the 1940s and serves special needs children. It is on Kaler's Pond and also has a large pool which is accessible by wheelchair. Each year the Sayville Club has been hosting a child to attend the camp at no costs to the child's family. Children enjoy swimming, boating, games and campfires. |
