| Posted by Regina Stefanelli on Jan 31, 2013 Members of the Farmington Rotary Club hold a Christmas card they received from their Safe Passage sponsor child Victor. Victor is one of 600 children who live in the Guatemala City Dump neighborhood who get a chance to go to school thru the generosity of sponsors. The sponsorship allows student like Victor to attend public school, go to the Safe Passage enrichment center and get one hot meal a day. Victor's family will also receive food supplies at the end of each month if he has good attendance records for that month. Mt. Blue Interact, UMF Rotaract and several Rotarians in our district also sponsor children. It's life changing educational programs like these that help break the chains of poverty! |

Yes, you can have a new lifelong friend by taking advantage of one of Rotary's best programs, Rotary Youth Exchange. Next school year will be no exception to the growing list of outstanding students we have hosted in Farmington. Seventeen year old Nicole Isabel Escobar Chavez of Quito, Ecuador will be with us next year. Nicole is a good student and loves dance, fashion and pets. She loves meeting new people and wants to be a lawyer because she believes in fighting for justice. She wants to live and learn in a different culture to be able to expand her horizons and create new life changing experiences that will be able to shape the way she thinks and sees from a different point of view.
Her mother said to us, "Nicole is well behaved. She is a very mature teenager with a big heart and her biggest strength is respect for her parents and family. Those who host her will not be getting an exchange student but gaining a daughter."
If this propect interests you, please contact one of the members of our Youth Exchange Committee, Pauline Rodrigue, Glenn Kapiloff, Regina Stefanelli, or Al Feather. They will be happy to give you further details about this amazing opportunity to help change the world for the better one exchange student at a time and gain yourself a daughter at the same time. |

| Posted by Douglas R. Ibarguen on Oct 26, 2011 District Governor Deb Walters announced Monday, October 24 that Maine's Governor Paul LePage signed a proclamation declaring this week as "Rotary End Polio Week" in Maine. The picture shows DG Deb and DG Gary Spears of District 7780 with the Governor as he signed the proclamation. She added that through the hard work of many Rotarians, we are fortunate to have this happen and to have the National Assembly in Quebec make the same proclamation on Tuesday. There are many club events this week to raise awareness about our efforts to end Polio, and the district will be issuing a press release about them. The recent news on our efforts to end Polio is good - the number of new cases is dropping. In India there has only been one new case since January. It would be wonderful if that girl was the last person to contract Polio in India. |
