| Posted by Brenda Kuzniar on Mar 12, 2013 On February 23rd Yuma Rotarian's were able to remotely join the District 5500 Peace Conference from the Yuma Heritage Library. What a great opportunity to take part without having to drive to Tucson! While the event ended early for us in Yuma due to some technical difficulty it was a wonderful learning experience. The ability to join remotely is one that will be greatly appreciated by my many Yuma Rotarian's for future events. Enjoy a few pictures of our day! |

| Posted by Brenda Kuzniar on Aug 28, 2012 THE SHOT FELT ‘ROUND THE WORLD PRESS RELEASE YUMA, AZ: THE DOCUMENTARY FILM "THE SHOT FELT ‘ROUND THE WORLD" THE UNTOLD PITTSBURGH POLIO STORY WILL BE SHOWN ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2012 AT THE HISTORIC YUMA THEATRE. IN ATTENDANCE WILL BE DR. PETER SALK, THE SON OF DR. JONAS SALK. For more information please contact: Chuck Nordquist 928.246.7916 chucknbobbi@roadrunner.com Wednesday, August 1, 2006 The documentary film "The Shot Felt ‘Round the World" will play at the Historic Yuma Theatre on Sunday, October 7, 2012. The film is about Dr. Jonas Salk and the team that created the first vaccine for polio. As part of a world wide initiative Rotary International is devoted to the world wide eradi-cation of this horrible disease. The film takes the viewer through all the pain and triumph of Dr. Salk’s team as they relive the experience through interviews and historic footage. This film is important because the disease is one rarely thought of today because of its long term absence in the United States. Yet other countries have felt and continue to feel the ravages of this disease in their children to this day. There will be a reception at the Yuma Art Center before the film is shown and a question and answer period following the film. Several dignitaries from the effort to eliminate polio will be in attendance including Dr. Peter Salk who is the eldest son of Dr. Jonas Salk and is the Scientific Director of the Jonas Salk Foundation. The photographs included in this release are of the exterior of the Yuma Art Center and the interior of the Historic Yuma Theatre done by Nels Akerlund and a photograph of the interior of the Yuma Art Center. More information will be released as the event date approaches. |

The shirts will display the "We are the Future - Don't Meth With Us" slogan with Art from one of our Local Students! We viewed the art at our meeting on December 14th and the students did a fantastic job and were very creative. Stay tuned for the winner! If you are interested in helping sponsor our program please call Herlie @ 928-246-2393 or, a Sunrise Rotary Member! We would love your support! |
