In a country where it is believed that a person with a disability is paying for a past life sin, it is not surprising to learn that there are limited resources for children and adults who are blind. Add to that fact that the country of Nepal is one of the poorest in the world, and the effect is compounded due to the limited resources of producing Braille. In the words of a Napali, “There has been no way for visually impaired Nepalis to broaden their horizons. There was simply no reading material available in Braille.” |

For over 10 years, MV Rotary has been involved in the “Shop with a Cop” program for low income/at risk children. This year, 415 children were given $50 to shop for Christmas, and also have the opportunity to have a positive experience with a police officer. |

Ann Liberato, District Governor and Manager of Cobalt Mortgage in Tukwila, spoke at the Nov. 18th meeting. Ann is a member of West Seattle Rotary, has been married for 30 years, and has one daughter. She is a proud WSU Cougar and enjoys vacationing in her RV. |

Tim Teusnick, a family care physician and surgeon by training, just finished his Rotary presidential year in Ethiopia. He spoke to the Club about obstetric fistula, and how the Addis Ababa Fistula hospital is changing the lives of women who end up with this condition. |

Jose Hernandez spent a significant part of his 18 years on a path of violence and destruction which led him to be permanently expelled from Kent School District. At the August 19 meeting, Hernandez shared his story about the events that led up to that moment, and the choices he later made which allowed him to graduate from Kentwood HS. |

Monica Robbins, CDP, Tahoma School District’s Intervention Counselor, spoke to the Club at the May 20th meeting about the issues regarding the use of marijuana by today’s youth. Robbins, who has been working with children for the past 11 years out of her 18 years of drug counseling, says that marijuana is the most widely used drug, after alcohol, by children today. |

"Together We Can", is the message that Clark Roberts shared with the club at the Oct. 1 weekly meeting. Blind at age 24 due to retinitis pigmentosa (a degenerative eye condition), Clark chose to accept his loss of vision, and later bring his message of hope and encouragement to people of all ages. |
