Chip Davidson presented his take on the history of Seattle.  This episode focused on 1850 to 1890.  The first settlers in to be Seattle area settled at Alki.  They chose to start the city development from middle of the current downtown to roughly Boeing field.  This was really odd since there were few natural resources directly around them, unlike Port Angeles, Port Gamble and Port Townsend.

The last territorial governor sold himself the tide flats for $10 - Yesler to Boeing Field, and proceeded to fill in the flats from the hills to the south being washed out to make land available.  Yesler street was the 'skid road' to bring logs down the hill to the mills just north on the water.  After a couple of people died in the skid road, they made a protected trough.

Guest today was Laura Yagudayev with American Family Insurance in North Creek.  Happy Birthday to Mark Andrews.

Starting this week we have brought back an item from old – the Scooter Bag.  Thanks to Pete Berard and Gary Anderson.  Cost is $2.  Leave without a scooter badge $5.  There is only one badge in the box at the moment, so be first.  A scooter is still encouraged to apologize to the speaker and president.

The September Fireside has been changed.  Normally it would be the first Thursday of the month.  Slight scheduling conflict -  there is a Seahawk game that evening.  So it has been moved to Wednesday, Sept 3rd at the 192 Pub in Kenmore.
