| Posted by Gary O'Rielly on Jun 15, 2013 This year's annual meeting was full of fellowship, warmth and above all fun. David Johnson, Sergeant of Arms extraordinaire highlighted the fun portion of the meeting and had everyone in stitches as he doled out funny awards after funning awards. Many attempts were made to disrobe him of his position but to no avail. Very few members were left out of the fray. The annual meeting was President Scott Smith's ceremony to honor the members who served on his Board as officers and directors, present the Rotarian of the Year and Presidential Citation Distinguished Awards and recap an awesome year for the Club. In the end it was time to pass the gavel to Jim Kelley, the incoming President for 2013-2014. Kelley's board will include the following Officers beginning July 1st: Gary O'Rielly, President-Elect; Bill Demeroutis, President-Nominee; Jim Haugen, Secretary; Loren Hole, Treasurer and Past President Scott Smith. Directors will be Tracy DeLorm and Kathy Little for Community Services; Bill Demeroutis, Club Service; John Huber, Membership; Scott Smith, International Service, David Johnson, Sergeant of Arms; James Monroe, Website Administrator and Programs and Gary O'Rielly, Public Relations. Congratulations to Scott for leading our Club this past year. In the end, we will have four new members and an application to approve at its Board meeting on Friday, June 21st. A good start at rebuilding our membership, the Club's two year budget, a successful Wine and Beer Tasting Fundraiser, AquaFest, poinsettia and wreath sales all wrapped into another successful year for our small Club to grow on in the future. Plus, 13 members were honored for Perfect Attendance this past year. Welcome Jim Kelley as our new leader and the new Board. We look forward to building on one successful year after another. The possibilities are endless and the goals are in sight. | | Posted by Gary O'Rielly on Jun 19, 2013 Two Rotarians who have served with distinction were awarded the top awards at the Club's annual meeting on Wednesday, June 12th. ROTARIAN OF THE YEAR: In 2011, Jim Haugen transferred his membership from the Rotary Club of Everett to our Club. Jim has been a sparkplug ever since raising the Club's Foundation activities the past two years and was actively involved in the Wine and Beer Tasting Fundraiser. Jim was awarded the Rotarian of the Year by outgoing President Scott Smith. Scott mentioned Jim's dedicatation and hard working efforts on behalf of our Club. We have been blessed with his leadership, loyalty, dedication and distinguished service with the Everett Club and now with our Club. PRESIDENTIAL CITATION DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD: The Club honored Loren Hole for his long-time dedication to our Club. Loren has served in many different capacities from opening each meeting with a prayer to organizing the Ducks for the annual Duck Dash to opting in as Co-TREASURER this past year. Plus, his Perfect Attendance record is unmatched in our Club's brief 22 plus years. A friendly smile, a warm greeting and mostly accompanied by Lorna, he embodies the ideals of a Rotarian and out-going President Scott Smith awarded Loren with a Presidential Citation Distinguished Service Award to a distinguished gentleman. | | Posted by Gary O'Rielly on Jun 10, 2013 Mayor Vern Little was our guest presenter June 7th. He gave a overview of the State of the City focusing on Financial Sustainability; Economic Development, Transportation and Lake quality. The City started a five year budget process when he became Mayor which has allowed the city to maintain and improve its financial objectives without going into debt. | | Posted by Gary O'Rielly on Jun 04, 2013 This was an extraordinary topic for our meeting again this past week. Our members listened to the pros and cons of COMMERICIAL AIR TRAFFICE SERVICE AT PAINE FIELD from a proponent and an opponent. The proponent was Paul Roberts, a land use specialist and aviation expert and the opponent was Joe Marine, Mayor of Mukilteo and a member of the South Everett-Mukilteo Rotary Club. | | Posted by James Monroe on Jun 03, 2013 The highlight of this year's District 5050 Conference was the Flash Mob that occurred in downtown Vancouver, BC on Saturday, June 1st! Everyone had a great time and congratulations to the creative team behind this. | | Posted by Gary O'Rielly on May 28, 2013 The Rotary Club of Lake Stevens gave $5,000 in scholarships to six seniors from Lake Stevens High School and Granite Falls High School at a ceremony during the Club's weekly meeting May 24th. Each of the recipients were interviewed by the Club's Vocational Committee prior to their selection. | | Apr 08, 2013 "Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return." | | Apr 07, 2013 "The modern airplane creates a new geographical dimension, a navigable ocean of air blankets the whole surface of the globe. There are no distant places any longer: the world is small and the world is one." | | Jun 12, 2013 Installation Banquet |
