| | Posted by Ken Eastman Five business professionals and a Rotarian from South Korea recently visited Camarillo as part of the Rotary Foundation's Group Study Exchange (GSE) Program. The exchange is an opportunity for young professionals who are not Rotarians to travel to another country so they can learn how their vocation works in that country and also act as goodwill ambassadors.
In addition to attending a meeting of the Camarillo Rotary Club, the group's local activities included visits to the Camarillo Premium Outlets shopping center, the Commemorative Air Force exhibit at Camarillo Airport (see photo), and other Ventura County attractions, as well as other area Rotary Clubs and the Rotary District 5240 Conference in Carpinteria.

Vicki Murphy, Director of Development at Casa Pacifica, receives a $60,000 check from Camarillo Rotary Club Treasurer Carol Wright (left) and Al Lowe, Co-Chair of the club's Care for Kids Golf Classic, held last July. The annual tournament has raised more than $1.3 million for Casa Pacifica over the past 18 years. Located in Camarillo, Casa Pacifica serves abused, neglected and severely emotionally disturbed children and adolescents from the Tri-Counties areas of Southern California.
| | Posted by Ken Eastman Five years ago, the Rotary Club of Camarillo pledged $25,000 to support the new Camarillo Library. That pledge has now been completed, and the final $5,000 installment was presented at a special club meeting held at the Library on August 17th.

Our 19th Annual Care for Kids Golf Classic on July 18th was one of our best tournaments ever, with great weather, good food, lots of fun and plenty of terrific silent and live auction items. Best of all, the Classic helped raise funds for an outstanding cause—the children of Casa Pacifica. The Rotary Clubs of Camarillo have made a long-term commitment to support Casa Pacifica, and have raised more than $1.3 million since the tournament began 19 years ago. Thanks to everyone who took part as a sponsor, player, or volunteer—we couldn't have done it without you!
| | Posted by Ken Eastman The Camarillo Rotary Club recently donated 6,500 pairs of reading glasses to a remote agricultural tribe of villagers living in northern Thailand. “These glasses are for (those) people who are not fully integrated into the Thai economy and don’t get a lot of services,” said Club President Max Copenhagen, who spearheaded the project. “They’re excited to get these because they can learn how to read and learn how to do other handiwork.” The club partnered with the Chiang Mai North Rotary Club in Thailand to deliver the eyeglasses and worked with Rotary International and the Rotary Club of Fillmore to fund the project. Camarillo Rotary purchased the eyeglasses as kits through Vision Quest, a project started by the Rotary Club of Iola, Kan. The $250 kits include all that is needed to assemble 314 pairs of reading glasses.
The kits are sent to Rotary members throughout the world. Each Rotarian will train an individual from the village being helped to make the glasses. The goal is to create jobs and income for small, rural villages such as those in northern Thailand. | | Posted by Ken Eastman on Jun 22, 2011 Camarillo Rotary recently awarded nine scholarships to deserving local high school seniors. The winners were (left to right in photo) Chris Russell, Kyle Crockett, Stephanie Raymond (accepting for brother Scott), Ryan Pettit, Meagan Nelford-Fracassi, Rachel Mar and Jessika Unterberger. Not shown: Eric Chen and Corene Hutchison. | | Posted by Ken Eastman More than 200 people attended the Camarillo Rotary Club's ALIVE Healthcare Festival in Old Town Camarillo on May 28th. More than 45 display booths and two mobile clinics offered free health consultations and services ranging from immunizations, blood pressure and bone density tests to memory screenings, acupuncture and chiropractic adjustments. | | Posted by Ken Eastman Under the leadership of Mike Andonian, our traditional children's holiday party at the Boys & Girls Club of Camarillo was a big success.
