Two large Vehicles needed next Thursday- Sunday
Rotary de Tolsoa has 2 Counselors and 9 students with a lot of luggage that need to get down to Ojai (RYLA) Thursday morning April 24-27th late afternoon.
We need two
passenger vehicles that two Counselors (Tom Zehnder & Gay Spencer) can drive 9 students, & lot of Luggage to Ojai.
If two people would like to drive us all down and then pick us up on Sunday morning that would be nice as well.
Please contact Gay before Tuesday evening so she can come up with a plan. A speedy response would be appreciated, Gay 305.7373

The DeGroot Home in San Luis Obispo is run by Sjany DeGroot, RN, and cares for medically fragile children. According to San Luis Obispo Fire Chief Garret Olson, "The DeGroot home has a very special place in our hearts. More than just a place where our firefighter-paramedics go to assist with caring for some very special children, this home and its occupants have become a part of our family. We are honored to partner with Rotary de Tolosa on this heartwarming project."
This past week with the help of the following origizations: Mission Prep High School Interact Club, Pacific Beach High School, Rotaract, Rotary De Tolosa, Home Depot and off- duty personnel from the San Luis Obispo Fire Department equally over 100 plus volunteers we were able to come together and give the DeGroot home a much needed makeover.
Over the course of two full days the property grounds of over 15000 square feet were totally cleaned with six giant truck loads taken to the landfill. The yard was landscaped with over 50 plants and 80 bags of bark to enhance the overall curbside appeal.
Inside the home, four living areas were given a makeover with a fresh coat of paint and stenciling that assisted in brighting up the rooms. The childern's room was updated with wiring and electrical system that added to the overall safety of The DeGroot Home. Additionally, an air conditioner, halogen lights and security door were installed to enhance all of the newly improved areas.
All this could not have been accomplished without the help of many. Special thanks to Home Depot, Cold Canyon Landfill, Idlers and President Jenifer Rynes for their donations.
Priceless was the look on the children's faces watching as everything was completed.

The De Groot home in San Luis Obispo was chosen as Rotary De Tolosa’s Community Service work project. This event will take place on the weekend of 12 & 13 Oct 2013 from 9 – 4pm.
The De Groot home serves as the 24 hour 7 day a week Nursing home for newborn to 18 year old children who have a variety of health issues, including: Birth Defects, Developmental Delays, Premature Infants with major medical needs, seizure care, drug addicted babies, oxygen dependency just to name a few.
The De Groot's Nursing Home was owned and run by Sjany (RN) and her husband Rokus de Groot. Unfortunately, Rokus De Groot passed away two weeks ago, so our timing in doing our part to help this worthy cause couldn’t come at a better time to help brighten the lives of these very special children and their 24/7 caregivers.
Sjany (pronounced Shawne) gives each and every kid the love and care they deserve who have nowhere else to go. Sadly, many of them spend precious few weeks or months in the De Groot home before they succumb to their complicated medical conditions. Sjany De Groot has operated this amazing home for special needs children for almost 40 years in San Luis Obispo. A survivor of Nazi occupation in her homeland. She is a wonderful mother of seven and has grand kids and great-grand kids. She also wrote a book called "I'll Never Give Up".
It’s not your typical nursing home. What's unique about it is that they run it out of their home in a family setting. There is a RN in the house at all times. There are two physicians who come to the house to check on the kids, also a dentists comes. The home is licensed for 15 children and the admittance age is 0-5 but is licensed up to 18 years old.

SLO Rotaract President Maggie McGrath shares the details of the Rotaract trip to Mexico this past weekend:
7 SLO Rotaractors met up with 7 Ventura Rotaractors and a non-profit organization called Corazon to do a one-day “super build” in Tierra Millenia, Mexico (a town just outside of Tecate). The family that we were building for has been working on Corazon projects for 3 years to earn enough community service hours to qualify to get a home of their own. We crossed the border at 6AM on Saturday and drove to the site and immediately got busy. We framed, painted, and hammered our hearts out. Let me tell you… Roofing is not fun in Mexican heat. It was an incredible weekend and we really got to bond with each other and the Ventura Rotaract club. I think we all came home on an emotional high from an awesome weekend of service and fellowship.

The de Tolosa club was treated to a visit from our new district governor, Jack McClenahan, last week. He really likes our club, and is impressed with how we are such good "treetop flyers"... always under the radar!
And, the "gov" got one of our nifty new hats!
