It's done and ready to be dedicated! Thanks to the planning and hard work of the three San Luis Obispo Rotary Clubs... Laguna Lake Park has a new fitness course to replace the old parcourse built around 1980. Image
The Laguna Lake Fitness Course dedication and BBQ will be Thursday, June 27, at 5:00 PM - with a BBQ immediately to follow. The Monday Rotary Club will be BBQ-ing for all of us. We need a head count, so please respond yes or no to the registration email you'll be receiving this week!

Rotary International has approved changing the name of Rotary’s 5th avenue of service, currently called “New Generations Service,” to “Youth Service.” The 2010 Council approved this Avenue of Service for youth, which joined the already established Club Service, Vocational Service, Community Service, and International Service. The name “New Generations” was meant to reflect the need to build the next generation of Rotarians, but proponents of the name change argued Wednesday that the word “youth” is more universally understood, both inside and outside Rotary, and clarifies the fact that these programs encourage Rotarians to empower youth.

ImageEmma Phillips, first place winner in SLO Rotary de Tolosa’ s 4 Way Essay Contest, won 3rd Place in our District Competition. You probably remember Emma’s dad reading her emotional essay at a meeting last month when Emma was out of town and unable to attend.  The first place entry’s from each of our district clubs is submitted for this district award.  We are very excited that Emma’s essay was selected and she will be attending our meeting on June 12th to pick up her certificate and $100 Award for placing third in District 5240!

What better way to start a day than with a breakfast burrito from the "Three Amigos Casa de Ptomaine." Thanks Lyle, Steve and Todd for getting up early to scramble up eggs for the Rotary Teen Track meet.  Seems like it was all the old guard Rotarians out in the morning. Perhaps the afternoon saw a few more red badges.  It looked like we had a capacity crowd of middle schoolers participate and once again our club should be proud of helping put on this event.Image
