March is literacy awareness month on the Rotary calendar. It is also a time we look forward to with great enthusiasm for longer days and warmer times, Spring.  In March we have the Four Way Speech Contest scheduled for Monday evening March 24 at the Hopkinton Library.  Always a very good event.  We also start planning for our signature event the Hopkinton Rotary Scholarship Golf Tournament in June.  As always, we need the help of all members.  Literacy is on our minds.

We have had a very busy year since July 1 and we will not stop helping our local community.  We will continue to reach out to the town to find out how we can be of service with a different program each month.  Neal Cass is helping with this avenue of service.

Town meetings are in March and will provide a great time to promote our Flags Over Hopkinton program.  We have over 100 subscriptions at this time and need everyones help to spread the word.  The more flags we get out, the better the town looks during the holiday weekends.

Steve Chamberlin and I delivered the Thesaurus books to our 3rd graders on Presidents Day in February.  Ever the teacher, Steve captured the attention of these very busy young people and helped them understand not only what the books are used for, but also the simplified 4 Way Test which is on the inside cover of each book.  This is a good project and certainly ties in with literacy.

Thanks for all you do as members of the Rotary Club of Hopkinton.  Now it is time for you to invite others to join our efforts for changing our world around us one project at a time.  Please ask someone you know to join us at a breakfast.  Our meetings are good and our work is important.  Help us grow.  Help us do more.

ImageImageMarch is Literacy Awareness Month in Rotary and on Monday February 17, Steve Chamberlin and I visited Harold Martin School to give a Thesaurus to each Third Grader.  Steve, ever the teacher, gathered the attention of these busy students and introduced the idea and use of these books.  We all had fun explaining what a Thesaurus is.  Thanks Steve for all of your effort.

The Paul Harris award is given to those who, through their generosity, have given at least $1000 to the Rotary Foundation.  Many of you are within several hundred dollars of accomplishing this wonderful designation.  Please give some thought to completing this before June 30.  The contribution is a charitable donation and may qualify as an itemized deduction on your tax return which you will file in April 2014.  It would please me no end to award any of you a Paul Harris certificate and pin.

Past President Charlie is helping the board coordinate a Club Visioning program.  This effort will help us all with look into the future and dicide who we are as a Rotary Club and what we want to do for our town and for the greater world communittee.  Questionaires have been distributed at a recent meeting and it is very important that we all complete them and had them in.  We are all an important part of the process.  If you need a survey questionaire, please see Charlie at our next meeting.

Membership is everything to a Rotary club.  New ideas, new energy, new participants in communittee projects all come from new members.  This new Rotary year will include an active push for new members.  We have a wonderful spirit of giving back and others can share in this also.  We all need to ask two people each month to coe to a breakfast meeting and see for themselves.  Let's all help out and with that effort, we will help more people and projects in our town.  Kim Pecora is our Membership Chair this year.  Contact her with any candidates.
