He then spoke at length regarding the need for the funding of roads to be restructured. Currently the funds are based upon a fuel tax (.19 cents/.15 diesel per gallon) and vehicle registration fees. This formula has not kept pace with inflation. There have been cost increases in all aspects of the commission’s work while funding remains relatively the same each year. Governor Snyder has put together a proposal to change that structure, including an increase in vehicle registrations along with an increase in fuel tax at the wholesale level. There are other plans/scenarios being proposed in addition to the governor’s plan. At present an average household is paying approximately $350.00 per year toward the roads. Rob then asked the group to support these proposals of restructuring the funding streams by contacting our state legislators. 50/50 Dr. Pete won the 50/50 drawing. | | Posted by Carlie Anderson on Mar 04, 2013 Rotary Meeting Minutes March 4, 2013 Guests: · Julie McCready was at the meeting today. · Jr Rotarians introduced themselves and told us what they did over the weekend Announcements: · Craig announced a vote on whether the meeting following Easter Sunday should be a regular meeting or a round table.
