Field Elementary was adopted by the Pasadena After Hours Rotary Club many years ago. Since then we have regularly donated books to Field in honor of those who speak at the club, put on Field Beautification Day to spruce up the grounds and plant flowers and fruit trees, and puts on an end of the year awards ceremony, Field's Finest where teachers honor their students of the year and their families over a meal served by the Rotarians. On August 18, 2011 Pasadena After Hours Rotarians and guests attended a concert at the Hollywood Bowl which celebratees its 90th season this year. Our evening began with a delicious potluck picnic before the concert. We shared a great meal complete with home-baked bread and pineapple upside down cake as well as various treats from Porto's Bakery in Glendale. The musical program was dedicated to Beethoven and consisted of the Choral Fantasy and Symphony No. 9 in D minor. Conducting the Los Angeles Philharmonic was the winner of the Musical America's Conductor of the Year 2011, Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos. The performance drew great applause from the crowd. The Hollywood Bowl takes up a special place in many peoples hearts making every visit there a celebration. It could also not be a more fitting venue for the expansive sound of Beethoven. Thanks to Tom Polezani who organized this fantastic night-out! |
