The Rotary Club of Farmington will be changing the route of its annual 5K Road Race when the runners compete Sept. 29, but the challenge and competition will remain the same.

The 2013 Road Race Committee is pleased to announce that the Farmington Bank has awarded $5,000 to the club as an Elite Sponsor of this year's Road Race event.  This donation is part of the bank's community funding program in which organizations are eligible to receive funding for one sponsorship per calendar year.

As an Elite Sponsor, the Bank's logo will be prominently displayed on the race t-shirts and on all promotional material related to the event.  We thank them for their support, which has continued throughout the 6 years of the Rotary 5K Road Race.

Ted Lindquist, who is retiring after almost four decades as a Farmington Public School's teacher, was named a Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) at the Rotary Club of Farmington's 2013 Annual Dinner. In addition to being a well-known and respected educator, Ted is also very well known for his extensive community involvement, particularly in Unionville. He is president of the Unionville Village Improvement Association (UVIA) and one of the primary organizers of the annual Unionville Festival in September. Here, he poses with Rotary President Patty Strazzulla after accepting the honor of becoming a Paul Harris Fellow.

Nick Severino and his future wife, Kristi, on June 7 proposed the future expansion of the Rotary Club of Farmington"s membership by bringing twins into the world. At last report, all members of the instant Severino family are doing well. The twin girls were Friday morning at the Hospital of Central Connecticut at New Britain General. Josie Pavilina Severino weighed 5.11 lbs and was 17.5 inches long at birth; Samantha Grace Severino weighed 6.2 lbs and was 18.5 inches long.

Everyone in Farmington Rotary Club congratulates the happy family and wishes them well.

President-Elect Matt Vendetti was formerly installed tonight as our club President for the coming 2013-14 Rotary year at Maneeley's Banquet Hall in South Windsor. Other club Presidents as well as our new District Governor, Mike Barnett, from the South Windsor Rotary Club, were also involved in the ceremony. President Patty Strazzulla presented our $2,000 check to Behrhorst Partners for Development (our club's participation in their 2013-14 Water and Sanitation project in Saguiya, Guatemala) at the weekly meeting of the Manchester Rotary Club at the Manchester Country Club on Tuesday night, June 4. The Club's Annual Wine in the Gardens event was held at Farmington Gardens on Thursday evening, May 30. The event was sponsored by Farmington Bank, Bette Case Graphic Design, ComCast Business, CT Micronet, LPL Financial, Simsbury Bank, May, Bonee & Walsh, and Farmington Gardens. Wines were supplied by various venders through Wine Cellars 4 and ample delicious food was provided by an assortment of area restaurants. The Bristol Reunion Jazz band played throughout the night. Our final FAHS (Farmington Alternative High School) luncheon was held on Friday, May 3, hosted by Steve Wasley, at the Chili's Restaurant in Bristol. Donna Hamzy, Event Chair, did a wonderful job co-ordinating four luncheons with students, their teachers, and member of our club speaking to them about their occupations. The luncheons were held at various area restaurants and The Hampton Inn in January, March, April and May. Ron Llewellyn, Area Manager for several Midas stores, spoke about Auto Repair. Also attending today's luncheon was Mike Cheshire. His daughter, Megan Myers, is a social worker at the school.

The money was raised in December when the membership collected at the Highland Park Market.
