Eleven members and 7 spouses were amongst 187 Rotarians from Districts 7890 and 7980 who attended tonight's Hartford Rotary Club Centennial Dinner at the Crown Plaza Hotel. Our International President, Kalyan Banerjee, was the keynote speaker. The thirteen clubs chartered by Hartford Rotary Club were each presented with $500.00 towards a future "to be named" Paul Harris Fellow in each club. Myra and Joe Voves are shown in the photo with President Banerjee.

At the September 13th club meeting, Jennifer Hopkins, chairperson of the Farmington Food Pantry, showed some photos demonstrating that the cupboards at the pantry are pretty bare. Although 30 tons of food were collected in 2010, recent donations are down, she said, making it very difficult to help feed the 184 Farmington families who are eligible to benefit from the donations. Jennifer said the pantry's needs are for beans, tuna, boxes of mac & cheese, pasta sauce, juice boxes, crackers and cereal. Anyone wanting to make a donation can deliver them to the pantry in the Congregational Church at 75 Main St. in the Village.

Although our club traditionally brings donations for the pantry to our meetings on the last Tuesday of every month, it was suggested that the donation period be extended to every week at least through September.

Kim Smith (center), Development Director of the Make*A*Wish Foundation, flanked by Past President, Stephen Wasley, and Wine Tasting Event Co-Chair, Patty Strazzulla, on her left and Bob Festa, Wine Tasting Committee, and Bette Case, Wine Tasting Event Co-Chair, on her right, presented the club a plaque explaining who received our donation to the Foundation. A boy named Brandon received his special wish - a shopping spree at the huge Palisades Mall in New Jersey with limousine transportation both ways and lunch at the Cheesecake Factory, accompanied by his family.
