| Posted by Annette Smith on May 18, 2013 On May 18th, during pouring rain and wind, the brave souls of Juneau Gastineau Rotary Club came together to work at the Arboretum. Well....and to party a little bit......and eat really really good food!! We washed the greenhouse, dug rocks, shoveled and hauled topsoil and D1 in wheelbarrows......and generally reaffirmed that our decision to go to college all those many years ago was the right one! I don't think anyone was walking totally upright when we left! And I am sure there was a run on Advil in the drug store! You will never find a harder working group of Rotarians, anywhere!! | Posted by Annette Smith on Feb 07, 2013 Today we had the great honor to host Governor Sean Parnell at the Juneau-Gastineau Rotary Club. We were prepared for a speech on oil taxes, but he surprised us by asking us what we wanted him to address. Subjects ran from off shore oil revenue sharing, education funding, SLAM funding, health care with the new affordable health care act, his goals for this session, etc. He addressed each subject thoughtfully and clearly had thought out his positions taking the best interest of the State at heart. We appreciated the fact that he took time out of his busy schedule (especially during the Legislative Session) to spend time with us! What a great way to start the day!! |
| Posted by Annette Smith on Dec 27, 2012 Wow! We didn't have a meeting on the 27th, but did have the Glory Hole cooking project! And boy, did we ever have a great turn out! Our members have awesome kids (well...ok....they really are awesome young adults!)!! |
| Posted by Annette Smith on Dec 20, 2012 Thursday night the Juneau Rotaracters assembled 200 Christmas dinner boxes for families who would not be able to have a Christmas dinner without them. This is an amazing project managed by our young people! The budget is $10,000 and they collect enough Super Bear Price Smashers to pay about $3,000 of it. Each box contains a turkey, stuffing, dinner rolls, pie crusts, jello, celery, onions, potatoes, yams, green beans or corn, whipped cream, candy canes, cranberry sauce, marshmallows, evaporated milk, canned fruit and a bunch of other stuff. There were fifty boxes that will have a surprise gas card in them. Northland Services provides space and pallets, and trucks, etc. These young adults are truly amazing!! What an awesome project! And....they had the boxes all put together in less than 1/2 hour! See More Dinner Box Project Photos |

| Posted by Candy Behrends on Jun 02, 2012 Juneau Gastineau Rotary Club Day at the Lake last week was a huge success! We sold all the hot dogs, all the chips and all the soda! It certainly made for a quicker clean up! As always it was a big team event and most club members participated. The community turned out in their rain gear and kids were having great good fun fishing, eating and winning prizes at the carnival games. |

Since returning home he became an emergency room physician, married and has a lovely teenaged daughter. He told that club that being an exchange student made a huge impact on his life. |

| Posted by Candy Behrends on Dec 10, 2011 Pawel and John W took a shift at Fred Meyers ringing the Salvation Army bell. Always a friendly competition between the Rotary clubs to see who can collect the most money in our pots, but the winner is the Salvation Army and the good they can do in the community with the money we collect. |

Student recipients gathered with scholarship donors at a breakfast hosted by UAS.
