Beginning with nearly 450 trees, the Maplewood Rotary Club’s 2012 Christmas Tree Sale ended on Sunday afternoon.  The Rotary Club would like to thank all the hard working Rotarians, their family members who helped, Maplewood Boy Scout Troop 5, Livingston Boy Scout Troop 12 and the volunteer community members who unloaded, set up and sold the Christmas Trees. A 30-year tradition is renewed beginning Saturday, November 24, as the Maplewood Rotarians arrive at the Maplewood Community Pool, bright and early, to unload fresh Christmas Trees delivered from rural Pennsylvania.  Fraser Firs and Douglas Firs will be available in various sizes and one is sure to be the perfect fit for your home.  Prices range from $50 to $125.  And, you can also choose from a wonderful selection of beautiful wreaths, some expertly decorated by long-time Rotarian Carol Gilligan and her helpers.  See the Patch story here:  http://maplewood.patch.com/blog_posts/maplewood-rotary-clubs-annual-christmas-tree-sale-begins-on-saturday-until-we-sell-out Image

In October, Maplewood and South Orange Rotarians completed their annual 3rd Grade Dictionary Project by giving a dictionary to every 3rd grader, nearly 600 students combined, in Maplewood and South Orange.  Third-graders are selected to receive the books because their reading and writing skills typically improve and they begin learning how use reference materials at this level.  See the Patch Story here:  http://maplewood.patch.com/blog_posts/1-in-7-us-adults-are-illiterate-what-are-rotarians-doing-to-help

The Maplewood Rotary Club’s weekly meeting turned magical when special guest Maggie Doyne shared her story.  There wasn’t a dry eye in the room and all in attendance were inspired by her accomplishments.  Members of the Madison and South Orange Rotary Clubs also attended.  The Maplewood and Madison clubs joined forces to help with a new Well for Maggie's High School being built in 2013.  Full Story here:  http://maplewood.patch.com/blog_posts/not-a-dry-eye-at-the-maplewood-rotarty-club-with-special-guest-maggie-doyne Image
