Rotary Skyline was honored to host Harris County's newest Commissioner (Precinct 4) R. Jack Cagle to the club on Tuesday, January 10th. Commissioner Cagle was interviewed (by RCHS Founder and Bellaire City Councilman Corbett Daniel Parker) on a variety of topics from where did his nickname "Cactus Jack" come from, to what lesson he learned while being Harris County Civil Court-at-Law No. 1 that he has applied to new job, to County's finances and relationship with state legislators.  |

Rotary Skyliners and friends hit the ice rink at Discovery Green for some skating and hot chocolate. Rotary Skyline's Assistant District Governor surprised the club with a very generous Christmas check to support our District Grant projects aimed at child nutrition and health.

On Friday, Dec. 9th, Meghan Zimmer Lutschg and her husband Ken Lutschg opened their Bellaire home for a night of raising money for Polio ($250+) by auctioning off opportunity to shave Former President Dennis Mosley's moustache, white elephant gift exchanges, art kit donations to local school, great Thai food. On Oct. 27th Tia Bonham (Client Service Mgr of Early Childhood for the Julia C. Hester House) surprised Corbett Parker (Step Forward Day 2011Chair) at the office with a great big thank you note from the kids (with each kid signing cut outs of their hands) for Rotary Skyline's efforts during Step Forward Day 2011 in partnership with Pepperdine University's Houston Alumni Chapter. Participants will tell you that we certainly were served more than we served others. A great (albeit HOT) day!

Rotary Skyline was blessed to have Marine Sgt. Winston Fiore inspire us talking about his upcoming 5,000 mile trek across Southeast Asia to raise awareness and money for cleft surgeries (SMILETREK). He was so impressive the club members personally gave $728 in Good News money to International Children's Surgical Foundation PROVIDING FOR A LITTLE OVER 3 SURGERIES...Meghan Zimmer Lutschg & Rene Harris sponsored a surgery each! What a fantastic night and amazing response from the hearts of Rotary Skyliners! |

RCHS Founder Councilman Corbett Daniel Parker has been named 1 of Five Outstanding Young Houstonians for 2011 by the Houston Jaycees. The Awards Reception will be on Tuesday, August 9th and the Awards Formal Dinner on Tuesday, September 20th. Press Release & Ticket Order/Sponsor Information. Corbett was also recently honored by the Houston Dynamos on the field at half time of the Dynamos Charities Cup for his service on the Dynamo Charities Board. |

On Saturday, September 10, 2011 (9am-1pm), for the 4th year in a row, the Rotary Club of Houston will be partnering with the Houston Pepperdine Waves Alumni group for Step Forward Day 2011 Service Project. This year we will be serving the Julia C. Hester House, that has served the 5th Ward community for 68 years. The Julia C. Hester House is located at 2020 Solo Street, Houston, TX 77020. |

Reginald Adams (& his Museum of Cultural Arts Houston- MOCAH) is in Lyon, France from 6/12-7/5 for a service project at the Le Centre Leon-Berard, a children's cancer center. MOCAH will be working with terminally ill kids to co-create a mosaic sculpture that will pay homage to the hope, resilience and determination of the young cancer patients. |

The club also thanks outgoing Secretary Lisa Garces, who has done the most work that no one else has seen ensuring that all the reports were timely submitted to District/Rotary International and board minutes were taken. District 5890 passed the $500,000 milestone in giving to The Rotary Foundation for Rotary’s $200 Mil Polio Plus Challenge! At 60 cents per dose, this represents over 800,000 children who will not suffer the pain and paralysis of Polio thanks to you.

Keep Houston Beautiful recently informed the Museum of Cultural Arts Houston (MOCAH) that the Earth Day Festival Mural: Paint for the Planet was been selected as an Honorable Mention Award Winner in the 2010 Mayor's Proud Partners Awards Program. This community art project was organized by Rotary Houston Skyline's Reginald Adams (MOCAH's President/ CEO) and Ann Wright (District 5890 Public Image Committee Chair) sponsored by the Rotary District 5890.
