| Next Tuesday (28 May), the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Sydney will be Andrew Young, Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Social Impact since early 2012. In this role, he is dedicated to improving the effectiveness of social impact across the social purpose, government and corporate sectors in Australia After completing a PhD in engineering at the University of Adelaide in 1995, Andrew worked as a strategy consultant with Andersen Consulting, providing strategy, business and marketing advice to large Australian and international companies. Seeking to use his skills for social outcome, he took up a role as head of marketing and fundraising for The Smith Family. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer of youth cancer charity CanTeen in 2004 where he developed and delivered a 5-year strategic plan that greatly enhanced CanTeen's recognition and influence. Building on discussions with CEO peers in other organisations, Andrew was a founding member of Emerging Leaders for Social Change (ELSC) - a group of emerging leaders with an interest in creating greater social impact through a stronger social sector and cross-sectoral collaboration. |

| Next Tuesday, the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Sydney will be Lynda Ben-Menashe who works as NGO Relations Manager of the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies.
She will speak on "The Jewish Experience in Australia," covering local Jewish history and demography, as well as information about Jewish connections to Israel and its current events. Lynda was born in Sydney and is fifth generation Australian. She has travelled overseas extensively throughout Europe, the Middle East and the United States and lived in Israel for 7 years during the 1980s and 90s. She visits Israel and the West Bank annually. Lynda has three children aged between 13 and 18, speaks fluent Hebrew. The NSW Jewish Board of Deputies is the elected representative roof body of the NSW Jewish community and the major focus of Lynda's role is combatting racism and building social cohesion in NSW. |

As a career diplomat, Rob Laurie was Australia's High Commissioner to India, New Zealand and Canada, Ambassador to Burma and Poland and was posted in Ceylon, Moscow, Washington and Hong Kong. Through his career, he was close to a number of significant events, both directly as Head of Mission in some interesting places but also having been posted to Prime Minister Whitlam's office immediately following Whitlam's election, having accompanied Prime Ministers Hawke and Fraser to Nelson Mandela's inauguration and having attended Gorbachev's inauguration, among others. |
| NSW Police Force Deputy Commissioner Catherine Burn, Specialist Operations will be the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Sydney on Tuesday, 30 April. She will speak on "Challenges of Running a Modern Police Force". As Australia's highest ranked police woman, Deputy Commissioner Catherine Burn, was named the 2011 Telstra Australian Business Woman of the Year. | The Chief Justice of NSW, the Hon. Thomas Bathurst, will be the guest Speaker at Sydney Rotary Club's Consular Luncheon on 16th April. He will deliver an address entitled "Lawyers and Commercialism: Help or Hindrance?" His Honour will analyse the economic rationale for legal regulation of commercial activity and outline the ways in which the law assists business to operate efficiently and effectively, with particular regard to laws regulating market manipulation and competition. |
| The guest speaker at the Sydney Rotary Club on 9th April will be Professor Stephen Simpson , Academic Director of the Charles Perkins Centre and Australian Research Council Laureate Fellow in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Sydney. The Charles Perkins Centre is a new $500 million cross-faculty initiative at the University of Sydney.
At first glance it seems unlikely a world expert in locusts would have much to say about obesity, overeating and aging. In fact, Professor Simpson’s meticulous research into this swarming insect may just hold some of the keys to solving the world’s obesity crisis. Professor Simpson said the Centre is the most ambitious, visionary and transformative project ever undertaken by the University of Sydney, which aims to alleviate the burdens of obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease through innovative research, education and community engagement.

| The guest speaker at Sydney Rotary Club of Tuesday 5th March is the US Consul General, Niels Marquardt who will address the subject, "The United States in the Asian Century." Niels Marquardt assumed his position as U.S. Consul General in Sydney on August 21, 2010. He is a career member of the U.S. Foreign Service, with the rank of Minister Counselor. He previously served as the U.S. Ambassador to Republic of Madagascar and to the Union of the Comoros from 2007 to 2010, U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Cameroon from 2004 to 2007, and as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Equatorial Guinea from 2004 to 2006. |
| Next Tuesday's guest speaker will be the President of The Royal Society of NSW, Dr Donald Hector. The Society is the oldest "learned society" in Australia and in the Southern Hemisphere, having come into being as The Philosophical Society of Australasia on June 27, 1821. Based in Sydney with active branches in Mittagong and Orange its membership is open to anyone interested in promoting the studies in Science, Art, Literature and Philosophy. The Society has monthly meetings and other events and publishes a peer-reviewed journal. | Wendy Machin is the President of NRMA Motoring Services. She is also a former National Party MP. She is the principal of public relations company Machin Consulting, and maintains a beef cattle property near Wingham, NSW. Her career in politics and public relations began after university, when she took a job as communications officer for the National Party.At 25, Wendy established her own consultancy business and was also elected to North Sydney Council, where she served until her election to the NSW Parliament in 1985. Wendy was the first woman elected to represent the National Party in the NSW Legislative Assembly. She held portfolios in Government and Opposition, including Minister for Consumer Affairs, and Assistant Minister for Roads and Transport. Wendy resigned in 1996 after the birth of her second child. |

| On Tuesday 5th February , the Sydney Rotary Club will be helping to celebrate New Zealand’s Waitangi Day with Martin Welsh as the guest speaker. He will speak on “New Zealand – More than Earthquakes and Pavlova!”
Martin Welsh is New Zealand’s Consul General for New South Wales and Queensland, based in Sydney. He was appointed in September 2010 for a four-year term. Martin is a career diplomat who joined New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) in 1992 as a graduate recruit. He has served in a number of foreign policy roles both in Wellington and offshore, including Canberra, Noumea and more recently in Hanoi, Vietnam, where he was Deputy Head of Mission from 2002 to 2006. Martin was New Zealand’s Deputy Senior Official for APEC between 2007 and 2008. Prior to taking up his current role, Martin was Deputy Director of MFAT’s Europe Division in Wellington. Martin holds a Law degree and an Arts degree in French and Psychology from the University of Otago, New Zealand. He speaks fluent French and intermediate-level Vietnamese. PS. There will be three finalists for Sydney Rotary's Police Officer of the Year Award for 2012. They are Sergeant Craige Hansen, Sergeant Stewart Lockery and Leading Senior Constable Brad Tod. The Awards will be made in the presence of Superintendent Mark Walton - Commander, City Central LAC. Detective Superintendent Mick Goodwin, Commander - NSW Police Force Dog Unit, is the speaker, and will give a short address on the many roles performed by the NSW Police Force Dog Unit, including insight into the various breeds of dogs used and their varied functions. He will highlight how this specialist unit plays a key role in crime reduction. |

She earned a PhD in Biomedical Science at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York City and completed postdoctoral training at the National Institutes of Mental Health. |
