A Scotts Valley Rotary Sustainability Committee presentation on plastic pollution in the ocean hurting sea life and contaminating our food chain, including video and samples of plastic trash collected by marine vessels from the 5 ocean gyres.

On June 2nd, a Sister City Friendship delegation from Kasese, Uganda visited our club. Kasese Mayor, Godfrey Baluku Kime Kabbyanga brought a delegation of 5 people to visit the City of Santa Cruz as a step to becoming a Sister City. Mayor Godfrey, a Rotarian and Past District Governor from Uganda will return next Monday as our Club speaker. Kasese was featured in a 2013 Rotary International Friendship Exchange award video. The City of Santa Cruz and Sister Cities Committee invites everyone to a "Taste of Africa" free program on June 7th Friday 6-8 p.m. @ Cabrillo Black Box Theater. At our meeting, members shared ideas for building friendships among ourselves and outside of our regular meetings. Why not get a group together and meet others in our community and from Africa? Save the Date! Sunday July 28 from 12-5 our club will be participating in the annual Festival of the Book at Harvey West Park. This event is sponsored by the Library for all the kids who participated in the summer reading program. The Friends pay for the lunch and our club cooks and serves it. I will be getting details out soon.
