I am hoping to see some new Twin Peaks Rotarians. We will be starting the work on the water and sanitation project in Miraflor, Nicaragua in late August. We built the school in this same area some years ago. Although it will not be necessary to belong to the the task force, I am very interested in hearing from those that will want to travel to this site (and some others) in Nicaragua in early October. So far I have heard from PE Steve and Ena, Ray Derr, and Gale Toko about this trip. Since we will be staying at a small training hotel in Esteli, Nicaragua I will need a firm count by the first of September. Don't miss this wonderful "Service Above Self" opportunity. | | Posted by Anton Dworak We will not be having a meeting on July 21, 2011 in order to work on/support our Annual Dave Schey Golf Tournament. Please contact me if you need more information. Regards, Anton Dworak | | Posted by Karen Sekich | | Posted by Gretchen Dixon Hear ye Hear Ye. We will install our new officers for 2011-2012 on July 7th. Please come to the meeting to watch Rick hand over the gavel to Tony. Knowing these two, there ought to be some humorous antics involved! Rick's wife Nancy will be there as will Tony's family. Another reason to come - his kids are super cute! We will also have an Awards Ceremony. Since we don't know who the recipients are you better show up incase it's you. In addition we will have a "mini assembly." This will give the officers a chance to give a short job description. So in addition to watching our friends win awards we will also learn something. What an exciting meeting! See you on the 7th! | | Posted by Gretchen Dixon Come on Come All! Come to Roosevelt Park tonight at 5:30 for a family potluck and fun music. We will be eating and dancing the evening away. Last names A-M bring a side N-Z bring dessert. Thank you, Michel Brown | | Posted by Gretchen Dixon on Mar 12, 2011 rotary.org In response to the massive earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan on 11 March, The Rotary Foundation established the Rotary Japan and Pacific Islands Disaster Recovery Fund, which will support recovery projects in the affected areas. | | Posted by Gretchen Dixon on Feb 14, 2011 Sunday, February 13, 2011 Dear Friends of the Pease Family, Judy would like to share with you, her dear friends, that Mike passed away a little before 8 o’clock this morning. Judy will let us know the details of Mike’s funeral in the next day or two, but it will probably be the week of February 21st. Both she and Jack are doing relatively pretty well, and appreciate our concern for them. For the remainder of today, Judy will probably be resting, and hopes you understand if she is unable to return any phone calls.
Perhaps for today, if you’d like to pass on any information to Judy or Jack, we’d be happy to take a message for Judy. Our phone number is 303-702-9494 or ttdunne@hotmail.com . You can also call Judy’s friend Shawna Washam at home at 970-669-2529 or e-mail her at or Shawna.washam@aims.edu .
We’ll let you know more as we receive more information.
Mike “did not lose heart”, and has been “of good courage”, and we are humbled by Mike’s example of this scripture….
4:16 So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. 17 For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, 18 as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
5:6 So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, 7 for we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 9 So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18; 5:6-9) (ESV)
Peace be with you,
Tom and Monika Dunne | | Posted by Gretchen Dixon on Feb 12, 2011 2/12/2011 Dear Friends of the Pease Family, Judy would like to give you a quick update as to how Mike is doing.
Mike condition is steadily declining, and he is sleeping most of the time. Hospice is advising that Mike have no visitors. Judy is content to spend most of her time with Mike at Hospice, but does go back-and-forth between Hospice and home to ensure Jack is able to visit his dad on a regular basis. We (the Dunne’s) are happy to have Jack stay with us during this uncertain time, to help maintain a regular routine and to still attend school. Judy still appreciates the meals that you are providing for them, and Jack especially appreciates the lunch items for his school lunches!
If you are wanting to help with meals for the Pease family, you can contact Laurel Downer (downerld@msn.com) or Laura Gillett (lauragillett228@gmail.com). These ladies are coordinating meals for Judy and Jack, and have set up a meal calendar. Judy is still unable to return all our concerned phone calls, but appreciates them! Hopefully these e-mails are helping to keep you updated, but you are also welcome to call Shawna Washam at cell 970-593-2247 or Shawna.washam@aims.edu or to call us (Tom and Monika) at tel. 303-702-9494.
| | Posted by Gretchen Dixon on Feb 10, 2011 Dear Friends of the Pease Family, Judy would like to give you a quick update as to how Mike is doing. Mike’s condition is worsening, but it is uncertain as to how much time Mike still has remaining. He tends to get disoriented, and Hospice has increased his sedation so that he can rest better. At this time, Hospice is recommending that Mike have no visitors. For the time being, Judy is going back-and-forth between Louisville and Longmont, and we (the Dunne’s) are happy to have Jack stay with us during this uncertain time. Judy appreciates all of our concerned phone calls and e-mails, but hopes you understand if she cannot return your phone call. You can give us or Shawna Washam a call, and we will try to keep you updated with how Mike (and Judy and Jack) are doing. You can reach us (Tom and Monika) at tel. 303-702-9494 ttdunne@hotmail.com or Shawna at cell 970-593-2247 or Shawna.washam@aims.edu. | | Posted by Gretchen Dixon on Jan 28, 2011 Online registration is now available on the District website www.rotary5450.org for the District Conference April 29-30, 2011. Heather Boda Marc Cowell Greg Betsinger Bob Sarchet We are excited you are here! | | Posted by Gretchen Dixon | | Posted by Gretchen Dixon As defined by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Agency, "The Operation Liberate is designed to establish a learning environment for players to exercise emergency response plans, policies, and procedures as they pertain to WMD incident." Thursday December 9th, 2010 on behalf of our club, Bill Smellage awarded Mike Becker and Amy Hennion of the Longmont Fire Department with the Above and Beyond Award. They were nominated by Battalion Chief Monty Richardson for their efforts in coordinating "Operation Liberate," the mock disaster drill sponsored by the Longmont Fire Dept. through a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Mike and Amy applied for and received the $65,000 grant, then recruited a team of personnel to assist with organizing this drill. Preparation took many, many hours. They also worked with many outside agencies to make sure that participants jobs were covered during the drill. During the drill over 120 people took part in Operation Liberate. Many Fire Departments, Hazardous Materials Response Teams and Bomb Squads from Northern Colorado took part in this event. If there is a WMD incident in our region in the future these Emergency Response agencies/teams will be better prepared to coordinate a rapid response. And because of the grant, participating aencies will be reimbursed for their personnel \'s time and equipment costs;a significant factor in these difficult economic times. | | Posted by Gretchen Dixon on Dec 03, 2010 The 5th Annual State of the State luncheon was excellent. Karen did a great job of putting it together. It was a celebration of 100 years of Rotary in Colorado. The Denver Club was the 1st club here and the 31st in the world. Rick, Marika, Terry and Gretchen were fortunate enough to be in attendance. We were honored to have District 5450's Governor Bryan Cooke and his wife and District 5470's Governor Steve Berg and his wife in attendance. Many Past District Governors were also in attendance. Doug McLemore, President of Denver 31, presented a history of Rotary in Colorado. Pueblo Rotary Club was the 43 club in the world (1912) and the Greeley Club is the oldest in District 5440 (1917). We were honored to have Dr. William Foege, Senior Policy Advisor for Global Health Issues at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as our guest speaker. He gave us an update on how Rotary is helping to eradicate Polio worldwide. India was down to 40 cases last year and Nigeria was down to 8. This is significant progress! Afghanistan and Pakistan are the current hot spots. It is difficult to get in to vaccinate with the war going on. Don Elliman, COO for the State of Colorado, presented a State of the State Update on behalf of Gov. Ritter who was in Washington D.C. He then graciously took questions from the audience. Our final speaker was John Hickenlooper. He congratulated Rotary on 100 years of service in Colorado. He also gave a brief description of his plans for his term as Governor. This was an interesting and engaging luncheon. | | Posted by Gretchen Dixon on Nov 24, 2010 The XC Challenge, held November 6th, raised $1,200 for our Charity Fund. The race was held at Roger's Grove under bright sunny skies with temperatures in the 50s. Seventy six runners, men and women, ran two separate 3.5 mile races, and about a dozen children ran the free 1.2 mile Fun Run. Cash prizes were awarded to the overall male and female Open and Masters (over 40) winners. We had a fabulous raffle afterward with prizes donated by our sponsors: Fleet Feet Sports Boulder, Mees & Kaminski Eyecare, Left Hand Brewery, Massage Specialists, Mix 1, Max Muscle Longmont, Udi's Granola, Whole Foods, Buzz Coffee, Clif, Bar, and the Pumphouse Brewery. In fact, everyone who stayed for the Raffle won some type of prize. Our sponsors generously donate gift certificates, shoes, and free services like massages. Each paid runner also received a goody bag with lots of fun stuff. Although race registrations were down from last year due to less advertising, the club still raised $1,200- a nice chunk of money for our Charity Fund. Thanks to Jason Kaminski for organizing the race and to all the Rotarians who volunteered and/or ran. | | Posted by Gretchen Dixon on Nov 16, 2010 Join us this Thursday for lunch and fellowship when Dick Lyons will tell us Why Bad People Stay in Power. We meet at noon in in he Friendship room of the First Lutheran Church (corner of Third Ave. and Terry St.) Lunch for guests in $12 and it's delicious! | | Posted by Gretchen Dixon First Lutheran Church is located at 803 Terry Street, 80501. | | Posted by Gretchen Dixon Julia Peltonen, our Exchange Student from Finland, is here.
