We were fortunate to have Dr. Ambrose Marsh visit us to update us on The Bombo Palliative Care Project which was formed to support local health care teams in the Tanga district of Tanzania to develop and deliver their vision of palliative care services, also known as hospice or end of life care.  |

Two of our newest(and youngest) members have embarked on an initiative to bring younger people into the ranks of Rotary. Myles Cook and Geoff Hall have a wonderful perspective on the value of bringing in younger members, and present their thoughts on some ways to facilitate the recruitment of new members. They've dubbed their recruitment drive RAMP: Rotary Amplified Membership Project. |

Sidney by the Sea Rotary 2nd Annual Fundraiser

Sidney by the Sea Rotary 2nd Annual Fundraiser was a huge success, thanks in no small part to the huge hearts of the local businesses and volunteers! James Bond, himself (impersonator) arrived with Victoria Costume Girls. Volunteer ‘Flapper girls’ were the hit of the evening along with Melinda Whitaker, a Rotary member and Jazz Singer. The Band, Atomic All-stars, had everyone up dancing by the end of the evening. The success of the evening has already been put to a good cause with President Paul Hartigan of Sidney by the Sea Rotary handing over a cheque to the Friends of North Saanich Bike Park funding the completion the ‘Rotary Fitness Zone’ Sunday May 29th the afternoon after the Fundraiser, the Official opening of the North Saanich Free Ride Bike Park was well attended with Peter Chandler, Denis Paquette and Paul Hartigan cutting the Ceremonial Ribbon. Within minutes the park was blazing with all ages of bikers enjoying the day!

We were fortunate to have Bruce Williams come in and discuss the amazing achievments of Jeneece Edroff and her new Vision to build a home for families, from out of town, to be able to stay close to their children while in hospital. Jeneece is an inspiration to our community! |

Our Speaker today, April 14th 2011, was Bruce Lunn, COO with Childs Rights & Development discussed "Protecting the children" through this non-profit organization. The International Institute for Child Rights and Development (IICRD) is a non-profit organization based in Victoria, Canada, devoted to advancing the quality of life and development of vulnerable children around the globe. We have been working on issues affecting children’s lives locally, nationally and internationally since 1994  |

The mayor met with Sidney by the Sea Rotary Club in midFebruary 2011 to explain the delays in building the Water Park. The Rotarymembers Fundraiser, for the Water Park slated to be built in the newly designedIroquois Park, has been long delayed in getting off the ground, with the endresults finally coming to fruition, guaranteed by the Mayor for Spring 2012!

We welcomed Judy Dryden this morning, a volunteer for Sleeping Children Around The World. the presentation was informtive on how the non-profit group provides bedkits to children of any race and/or religion who will benefit the most; typically being located in underdeveloped and developing countries. for more information www.scaw.org

Steve Weller, High Tech Collision and Crew donate Car in their Circle of Giving. Sidney by the Sea Rotary Kenny Podmore explalins.This is the 3rd year High Tech Collision has fixed up a vehicle for donation to a family. The car was given to the new owners with one year of insurance, paid for my Seafirst Inc.in Brentwood Bay. |

The final report (in Portuguese!) is available to read from the DOWNLOADS menu, in the green column to the right. Outgoing Assistant District Governor Troy Alexander, joined over seventy club members and guests to install President Karen Morgan and the executive officers for 2011-2012, and to recognize Past President Paul Hartigan and his outgoing 2010-2011 Executive for excellent performance. Completing an extended twenty month term, Past President Paul received district recognition for the club's top performance in two membership growth categories. In his outgoing address, PP Paul, gently but mercilessly roasted members in recognition of their contributions and President Karen "called in the clowns" to enlist support for the coming year. |
