Never Fear – Cindy’s Here!!

In an effort to reacquaint us with Presidents past and future, President Short Pants has relinquished the podium yet again. This week it was a move of historical consequence. Presiding over the membership was PP Cindy Thompson, having undertaken (ha ha) the role as a Lakewood Rotary first!

Your scribe, for the benefit of members who have joined the club since, thought a short bio and interview may be insightful and fun!

It was precisely 52 degrees with showers on the horizon when President-in-Waiting Dave Reames struck the bell, signaling another Ben-less meeting for Lakewood Rotary. It was sunny and 90 degrees in Phoenix while Gary Fulton chaired the Paul Harris desk, and Mary Lou Sclair multitasked as the Raffle manager, Sgt at Arms, and Introducer of guests. Mary Covelli-Johnson shared the invocation, and PP John Lowney led the pledge.

SLAMMED!

(follows 4/20 NOTHING Meeting)

4/27/2012 After last week’s "I GOT NOTHING Meeting", recognized by even casual observers as an extreme low point in President Ben’s illustrious year, this week’s meeting was described as SLAMMED FULL! So full that a WARNING must be issued: This Bulletin contains NO JOKES. Read at your own risk of being simply informed without journalistic tricks to keep your attention. News and nothing but the news is our new Lakewood KEY model.

Luckily, His Highness had a great supporting cast to teleprompt him thru his full agenda:

ROME WAS BUILT IN A DAY……..TODAY, ACTUALLY!

According to tradition, on April 21, 753 B.C., Romulus and his twin brother, Remus, found Rome on the site where they were suckled by a she-wolf as orphaned infants. (So there…to all of you who profess that "Rome wasn’t built in a day!") (PS…I know the twenty-first is tomorrow, but as they are several time zones ahead of Lakewood, the twenty-first is almost closer than today, if you know what I mean!)

President Ben Sclair called us to order –for the second time in a row this month—right on time.

A fine invocation was delivered by Carl Fynboe and Steve Mazoff led us in the Pledge to Our Flag.

Mike McGowan

with help from Gary Fulton presided at the Paul Harris desk and the Sergeant at Arms was Bill Price, who also introduced the visiting Rotarians. The official Photographer was Bob Zawilski, whose name is pronounced just the way it sounds… er, I mean, just the way it is spelled. This bulletin was written by Joe Quinn.

One Visiting Rotarian, Dave Andrews of Sumner Rotary, was introduced.

He won!  He won!  One of our most deserving Rotarians, a person who has won the drawing only 3 times in over 1400 drawings over 30 years, won the chance to pick the red chip, and this person did it!  About 20 white, 1 red, and this person won at least $250 (our President seemed a little clueless about the exact amount….)!  The excitement in the room was electric, as all 38 Rotarians in attendance rose as one to salute the good fortune of the winning Rotarian….or maybe not quite all 38.  And the winner was……can’t tell you here, though your excitement must be excruciating.  But as you all know by now, the Bulletin staff is intent on finding ways to increase readership, and this is one of those ways.  You’ll have to read to the bottom of the bulletin, where you’ll encounter not only wonderful facts and stuff on the way to the end, but jokes, too.  So read on, Rotarians, and Friends of Rotary.   Read on!!

The Rotary Club of Lakewood
March 30, 2012

In an effort to attract readership, last week’s bulletin writer – who shall remain nameless – interspersed jokes in the body of this serious literary effort. It is generally known that the Lakewood Rotary Bulletin is an award winner. The trophy cases at our Lakewood Bulletin Publishing office are lined with significant trophies, plaques and Letters of Commendation. We shouldn’t have to stoop to a tawdry trick like jokes to attract or retain readership. Nevertheless, because the heretofore-unnamed reporter just happens to be The Editor-in-Chief, the rest of the staff must now come up with ways to generate enthusiasm for the weekly bulletin. This week’s attempt involves money. A great deal of money. On my way home from the meeting, this reporter stopped at the 7-11 Store and bought a Mega-Millions Lottery ticket worth more than $640 million – that’s $640,000,000! In order to gain your readership, I promise that as soon as they pay me that money, I will give each one of you who reads this week’s bulletin one million dollars - $1,000,000! However, you have to be able to prove you read the bulletin. To that end, there is a test embedded in the bulletin. If you attended the meeting and read this bulletin, you should have no problem passing the test necessary to claim your one million dollars. So, let’s begin.

Lowney as PresidentJohn Lowney, our 1999 – 2000 president conducted the meeting. He claimed it would be a traditional meeting. Those orthodox amongst the gathered cheered wildly; those in short pants were more subdued.
Posted by Greg Rediske on Mar 23, 2012

NOTICE: It has come to the attention of the Bulletin Writing Staff that some members don’t read the Bulletin. Rumor has it that even the PRESIDENT foregoes reading the Bulletin on occasion. The popular reasoning, the Staff has discovered, is that they were there at the meeting. Or, to quote the inimitable Pee Wee Herman from his classic film, PEE WEE’S BIG ADVENTURE, after he was asked, "Don’t you want to see the rest of the movie (about his life)?", Pee Wee replied, "I don’t have to see it, Dottie. I lived it."

Well, the Staff has met for countless hours, and after much hand-wringing and anguished wailing, we have arrived at a potential solution: jokes. Lots of jokes. And not just your "Why did the chicken cross the road" jokes, or lame Ole jokes, either. Real classic one-liners that will surely boost readership! Subsequent to this test, the Staff will meet and measure the effectiveness of this method of readership retention based on the lack of input by those who didn’t read it anyway.

And now: The Bulletin.

ImageIt was a dark and stormy Friday noon. And then Ron Irwin called the meeting to order with a raunchy, raucous song and bought drinks all around for everyone over 7!!!

Well ok – so there weren’t any drinks other than coffee and tea. And there wasn’t a song. And it wasn’t such bad weather. And no, Ron was not wearing his bowling shorts either.

But hey, Ron was there – leading us through the Rotary themed event. It was just so, so Rotarianishly authentic - I’m telling you. Honestly!

20,392 Days and Counting. Maybe we’ll get it right sometime.

Starting by compression…

President Ben Sclair started in low gear promptly at 12:30 despite running laps at the last minute trying to resolve the question of who gets to sit here and who gets to sit there. Those assisting the President on this day were PP Mary Lou Sclair and Gayle Selden attending to the myriad duties of collecting procurement forms, Steve Enquist at the Paul Harris desk, Tom Crabill as Sergeant At Arms, PP Greg Rediske taking pitchers, and Ole informing you via the bulletin.  Never let us forget that good man Duncan Cook sets up and takes down every week, and a fine job he does!

Dan Livingston – paying special tribute to another fallen police officer – WSP Trooper Tony Radulescu, offered the invocation prayerfully. Mike Block led us in the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. Tom Crabill introduced our visiting Rotarians as Bob Eddington and John Davis from Clover Park, Justin Davis from University Place and Stan Kanarowski from Tacoma 8. Now what are the odds of having two visiting Rotarians with the same last name of Davis from two different clubs? You don’t think I misheard those names and have errantly reported them here? If so, I apologize but let’s just keep it between us and not tell my boss, Editor-in-Chief Greg Rediske – he is a tough boss and he’s looking for any excuse to can me!

Guests of Rotarians included the very attractive and sweeter than any woman can possibly be in addition to being a super Mom and great cook - Bonnie Magnuson. Hmmm, same last name; I wonder…?. Diane Bauml and Sandra Boe who were presenting our program. PADG and PP Dave Covey sat there taken aback while President Ben introduced the ever-lovely Florence Covey. I got to sit at the same table with these ladies! Sometimes life is just too sweet! Mary introduced Mary or did I get that wrong? Maybe Mary introduced Mary – yeah, that was it. Jan Luze made the sad announcement that former member Larry Pfingston passed away.

According to our table calendars, our President’s new moniker is "Uncle Ben", either an allusion to a fascination with white rice, or perhaps because his name is Ben. In any event, Uncle Ben called us to order. Little did he know the disorder that would come soon thereafter…..but why wait?! It was during the birthday announcements, when Chris Kimball told the last joke. He told it more like Red Skelton than Jack Benny, meaning lots of laughing at his own joke before it even got told. It went like this: Greg Horn’s car was running very poorly, so he took it to his car repair guy, Steve Mazoff (apparently trying to make ends meet after a career as a lawyer. Or else it was his birthday, too.). Greg was very concerned about his car’s health. After a couple of hours, Steve told him that it was now purring like a kitten. Relieved, Greg said, "How on earth did you get it running so well?!?" To which Steve replied, "Just a little crap in the carburetor." Eyes wide in surprise, Greg responded, "How often will I have to do THAT?!?"

President Ben Sclair called us to order just in time to catch the Invocator-- Chris Kimball-- with his mouth full, but as usual it did not bother Chris one bit, as he delivered a thoughtful yet humorous invocation anyway.

The Pledge of Allegiance to our flag was led by Dave Coleman.Steve Enquist presided at the Paul Harris desk and the Sergeant at Arms was Bill Price with help from Bill Young. The very busy official Photographer was Dr. Jim Early. This bulletin was written by Joe Quinn, and as usual Greg Rediske, Editor, cleaned up errors and made it look better.

Our Visiting Rotarian, announced by Bill Young today, was John Anderson who eagerly awaits being replaced by our own Past President Greg Horn as the Assistant District Governor for this part of District 5020.

Frühjahrsmüdigkeit! That’s what it is, Spring Fever!

Who can blame us, after all the weather has thrown at us over the past few weeks, today is glorious and nearly 60 degrees!

In the northern hemisphere the symptoms usually arise from mid-March to mid-April….but what is to keep them from surfacing earlier, on a perfect day when the sun is out! The fact that Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow on Thursday, well the idea of six more weeks of winter leaves this scribe a little cold. (a little cold, get it?)

So…Spring Fever and all the thoughts that surface as a result will filter through this report to my colleagues.

In 2004, John Magnuson unveiled the history of the Sportsmans Dinner (aka The Wild Game Dinner).  Most people know that the first Wild Game Dinner was held on November 13, 1970, costing the club $270 for the social event.  And while some may argue that a few of Magnuson's historical footnotes to this event may be off a bit (some would say WAY off), this is the recorded history as printed in the Lakewood Rotary Bulletin ("The Lakewood Key").  It was in print, so it must be true:

He's here, he's here, he's finally here!! Yes, our wayward President Benjamin Sclair arrived on time, and as promised to the first meeting of the year 2012. As a matter of fact, he seemed to still be glowing over his winning the T. Torvald Torvaldssen III award for meetings missed while President, besting previous champ, John Magnuson. Speaking of Magnuson, he was scheduled for Bulletin writing duty, but exited stage left for Maui and golf. Apparently, he was attempting a misguided effort to reclaim the TTT III award: John---you have to miss meetings as PRESIDENT to qualify.

News of the Day:  PRESIDENT BEN SCLAIR MISSES THE MEETING!

Wait....that's not news is it.   Or so say the Puffins, who roasted our beloved President Ben with gusto.  And evident joy.  But he really didn't miss the meeting: he was just "late".  Given what it cost him, maybe he should have missed the meeting!

Puffins presiding:  Substitute President Mike JohnsonTom Crabill, and returning Puffins John Lowney and Homer Dodge.

Visiting Rotarians: Keith Galbraith and "Jack" the Black Labrador from Parkland Spanaway
Lew and Ardell Samdal - Ardell is Prez of Parkland Spanaway and a UND grad.

PRESIDING: President Ben Sclair, clad in shorts on this crisp, clear December day, rang the bell promptly at 12:30 p.m. and another Rotary meeting was on its way.

INVOCATION: Bob Peterson stepped right up to help when the assigned "invocator" (that's not a word!) was a few minutes late. How many Rotarians carry a handy dandy invocation in their wallet just in case? OK. One is all it takes.

PLEDGE: Terry Roarke started us off on the Pledge to our Flag.

PAUL HARRIS DESK: Bob Zawilski

VISITING ROTARIANS: Bill Price announced visitors including ADG John Anderson of Sumner, Bert Stibbe of Sumner, and Charlie Lippman from out of town. (I forgot to write that down.) At that point, Cindy Thompson came in late and was fined $50 for taking a late nap when she was scheduled to do the invocation. Bob Peterson did not step forward and pay her fine.

Rare Official Visit from our President:   Ben What’s-His-Name
Some guy in shorts wandered up to the podium and rang the bell as if he’d done it before!  At that moment we realized it was President Ben Sclair, the 3rd in the family line of Sclair Rotary Royalty.  Some had speculated he’d been overthrown with all the excitement centered on the Arab Spring, but here he was.   With sincere (or it was just great acting) apologies for his unapproved November sabbatical, he thanked those who covered for him, PP Greg Rediske, phantom himself PP Tom Sadler and even PE Dave Reames.  Along with NO meeting over Thanksgiving, one word kinda summarizes his Presidential aura for November………GONE!
It was hard to keep track of the groveling list of “reasons” and we missed how his mail-order long green pants became a green leprechaun hat.  Let’s just forget that he’s been trying to break PP Ole’s absentee record set over 10 years ago.  No we can’t forget, at least Magnuson got approval from the Board for his “work related” month in Italy (with family) and 3 weeks solo in Korea!
OK, let’s look forward to the future. Make sure you have on your calendar Dec 16th when the Puffins roast our shadowy leader.  Talk about a target-rich environment!  The Puffins will have a field day!  Tom & Jerrys too?  It’s always the best meeting of the year and this year will be no exception!  FUN!!!

Wearing fashionable legacy-style full length slacks, Hizoner Greg Rediske reprised his award-winning role as Club President and chaperone of the pack.

We welcomed visiting Rotarians Ron Nelson from Tacoma Narrows and Larry Treleven from Tacoma 8.

Our Club was led in the Pledge by Bill Price and Dan Livingston gave our invocation.

Then Fearless Leader gave pretty much everyone in the room a huge break when he cut the fine for not wearing a Rotary lapel pin from $2 down to $1 – a 50% increase in leniency!

VETERANS DAY

This day will only occur once in our lifetime: 11-11-11

"It is easy to take liberty for granted, when you have never had it taken from you." -Unknown

Past President (and Marine) Tom Sadler called the meeting to order at 12:29 p.m. 11-11-11. He was anxious to get going on time while filling in for President Ben Sclair who was AWOL. Tom’s suit was pressed and shoes shined, but he was concerned about getting it back before extra charges were levied.

Service to the club was rendered by Bill Young, Sgt at Arms and Raffle, Mike McGowan and Gary Fulton at the Paul Harris desk, Judy Hosea led the pledge and is serving as your scribe. Jim Early is the official photographer. Mary Covelli Johnson gave a very meaningful Veteran’s Day invocation.

In his best (only?) Friday shorts and fleece (FSF), Current President (CP) Ben struck the bell at precisely 1230, signaling to all that the weekend was but 90 minutes away, maybe less for the Prez… Mike McGowan presided at the Paul Harris desk, Past President (PP) Mary Lou Sclair sold us on the weekly drawing, and Bill Young did double duty as Sgt at Arms and lead photographer. The invocation was offered by Lenny Holmes, and PP Dave Betz led us in the salute to our flag.

Posted by John Magnuson on Oct 28, 2011

The First Inning

The first pitch was thrown at 1232, but who’s counting….
Bobby Gee, who asked for divine guidance for our leaders, and they need it dearly, led the invocation. But how about us followers, don’t we deserve some credit or blame for having elected such leaders? Bill Larkin lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. Bill Price introduced our visiting Rotarian, Bert Stibbe from Sumner. President Ben thanked James Guerrero at the Paul Harris desk, Bill Price, Sergeant at Arms, PP Bob Zawilski, shutterbug and Ole, scribe-for-a-day.
Guests of Rotarians included Erik Kramer introduced by Judy Hosea, President Ben introduced Ted Mzqpryth from Olympia. I hope I got the spelling of that name correct; it was hard to hear it. Dave Reames introduced Tommy Crabill and PP Dave Covey brought the ever-lovely Florence, his most recent wife.

What do you do when your leader is gone? If you’re Lakewood Rotary, you dredge up one of the old Past Presidents (heavy on the "old") and you see what happens. This week’s Old President was none other than Bob Zawilski, or as some still call him, "Zawalski". PP Bob tried valiantly to be "Casual Yet Respectful", or whatever President Ben’s motto is. Bob stripped himself of suit jacket and tie, and put on a fleece vest. A valiant try, indeed. But he didn’t attempt the bare legs part. (For the record: there was no power point to be found.)

President Ben Sclair called us to order right on time for another wacky, informal but respectful Lakewood Rotary meeting.

The Invocation was delivered with the rhythm and grace of an accomplished musician by Chris Kimball, who did not miss a beat.

The Pledge of Allegiance to our flag was led by long time member, Mo Sarram.

Past President Mick Johnson held court at the Paul Harris desk and the Sergeant at Arms was Bill Young, with lots of help from the indomitable Richard Simmons. The very busy official Photographer was Dr. Jim Early. This bulletin was by Joe Quinn, but blame any errors on my Editor. (Editor’s Note: No, that’s not how it works.)

Rotarians Up in Arms! Yikes!

September 30th Meeting of the Rotary Club of Lakewood

Armed with fork instead of pen, your scribe was caught unaware when President Ben called the meeting to order on a blustery and slightly damp afternoon. (Later Prez. Ben explained that the Lakewood Rotary Board was "back to Rotary business" and not working on the weather….thus, it was raining!)

Posted by Greg Horn on Sep 23, 2011

Just as President Ben was ready to ring the 12:30 starting bell some of our sharper Rotarians noticed that it wasn’t President Ben at the podium. It kind of looked like Ben, dressed in khaki shorts, but he had filled out a bit, was now wearing glasses, and was sporting some very stylish black knee-high stockings like a Scotsman might wear below his kilts. And he was wearing a stylish tan two-button blazer. Like something you would see in the latest issue of GQ (Gentleman’s Quarterly.)

Whoa! Was there a time warp going on here? Had time moved forward or backward? Some of the ladies went running to nearby houses looking for a pair of trousers to cover up those legs.

We all had to stop for a minute while we adjusted our clocks backward 21 years (kind of like you do when you enter Idaho.)

Paul Harris Desk - Steve Enquist
Sgt At Arms - Bill Price & Richard Simmons
Bulletin – PP Dave Covey

The last Friday meeting completely under President Mick Johnson’s control started off in unusual fashion: Mick rang the bell, then immediately burst into an outstanding version of Kool & the Gang’s "I just want to celebrate", complete with leg kicks, and then he segued nicely into the Invocation of Chris Kimball and the Pledge led by Greg Horn. Mick paused briefly, then began crooning, "Celebrate, Celebrate, Dance to the Music!", made famous by Three Dog Night, before announcing that Jim Schultz had ably manned the Paul Harris desk while Bill Young was the ever-vigilant Sgt at Arms while also serving as the ever-artistic staff photographer.

President Mick Johnson called us to order right on time for an unusual Lakewood Rotary meeting.

The Invocation (a very unusual and detailed one) was delivered eloquently by Carl Fynboe.

The Pledge of Allegiance to our flag was led by our new Program Committee Chairman, Bob Gee.

Cal Kushen held sway at the Paul Harris desk and the Sergeant at Arms was Jay Mayer, who introduced two visiting Rotarians from Tacoma Rotary #8. One of them was Larry Treleven; I know this because I was sitting right next to him. The other one’s name I already forgot, so I have to admit this bulletin is by Joe Quinn. Our photographer today was Bob Zawilski.

Jim Schultz was manning the Paul Harris station as each of us move towards our next award!

Bill Price was the Sergeant-at-Arms and indeed he did bring both of his arms with him so that he could help all of us put that check mark by our names!  The great conversation that happens at the desk line easily distracts me and I walk by it unthinkingly.  Thanks for all your assists Bill.

Helpers at the incoming desk included:  The tag team of Bud Montgomery and Ward Fletcher took turns collecting for the Paul Harris fund.  Bill Young was Sgt. at Arms.

President-Elect Ben Sclair called our meeting to order at precisely 12:30 p.m.  He was decked out in the latest fashion, a nice pair of shorts revealing his even nicer tanned legs.  He then called on PP Cindy Thompson to give the invocation and Jim Sharp to lead us in the pledge to our flag.  Bill Young was our Sgt.-at-Arms.

May 20, 2011 - Spring Arrives: Finally, Lakewood Rotary could enjoy a 70 degree day. President Mick mentioned the beautiful day, but one senses Mick doesn’t want to step down. In his warped Presidential mind (after 10+ months of being barraged by how great he is) he’s organized a secret grass roots re-nomination committee in an attempt to stop the Sclair Political Machine in its tracks. It’s either that or he’s heavily invested in oil stocks and hates to have the thermostats go up! NOTE: If you’re scratching your head, this is a traditional bulletin start that has nothing to do with what took place in the meeting ……… kinda makes you want to actually attend Lakewood Rotary instead of reading this drivel (from the liberal press).

At precisely 11:29 PDT, President Mick Johnson struck the bell with real gusto, bringing us to some semblance of order for the 45th week of his admirable term of office. He gleefully reminded us he has but "six weeks to go…" Robert Peterson offered a thoughtful and thankful invocation in remembrance of those who protect us, those who lead us, and Mothers (who do all of the above and more) finishing with a special thought for Dave Betz, that was either a prayerful request for, or dire warning of, freezing rain in Hawaii. Gayle Selden stepped up to lead us in the pledge, Bill Price Sgt. At Arms, Gary Fulton at the Paul Harris desk, Bill Young taking the pictures, and your newest scribe seated next to Greg I (or Rediske II) for moral and technical support.

In the words of some clever collegiate ditty writer:

“Another busy week has passed;
sweedle dee dum dum,
And Friday night has come at last,
sweedle dee dum dum.
Sweedle dee, sweedle dee,
sweedle dee dum dum.”

The Alpha Delta Phi fraternity at the University of Washington boasts several Lakewood Rotarians and legacies. Sam Hunter, PP Dave Covey, PP John Magnuson, former member and son of PP Paul Reeder - Brian Reeder, Garrett Lordahl - son of PP Bob Lordahl and occasional Gig Harbor visitor Lee Gingrich. The reason this is important is that on Friday afternoons we all gathered at “The House” and sang that song, among others. Moreover Chris Miller, Alpha Delt Alum from Dartmouth was the original author of the story of Animal House. Truly an American Classic of Crude Humor, it was filmed at PP Norm Tremaine’s favorite college campus, home of The Anarchists, The University of Oregon. Now, if you think for one minute that is too much irrelevant information, read on! And thus begins this week’s Bulletin.

PRESIDING:  President Mick Johnson gonged us to order promptly at 12:30 p.m.  Too bad...just when he is getting really good at this Prez stuff--running the meeting--we have to replace him...pretty soon.

INVOCATION:   Bob Gee delivered a nice invocation, but this reporter felt it would be disrespectful to take notes, so the eloquence was lost (just like the short term memory).

PLEDGE:   Leon Titus made a rare appearance, so President Mick made him lead us in the Pledge.  Just kidding, Leon!

Bedecked in his usual sartorial splendor, President Mick Johnson restored order to the room at precisely 12:30 pm on Friday, April 15, 2011. Do you realize that it is exactly 20,078 days since the chartering of the Rotary Club of Lakewood in 1956? And do you realize that the anniversary of that chartering will occur in a mere 10 days, April 25? And do you further realize that your current president of this very same Rotary club made carpeting industry history when, in 1975, he adamantly refused to install one more yard of green shag carpet, thus beginning the downfall of that once popular flooring design? All hail President Johnson and the Rotary Club of Lakewood!!

Sportsman’s Dinner’s a Success
Dateline Apr 9, 2011
McGavick Center, CP Tech College, Lakewood, WA

Wait a minute, we’re getting ahead of ourselves, wasn’t there a regular Rotary meeting on Friday?  OK, President Mick Johnson rang the bell on time, Lenny Holmes gave the invocation. The front table had Cindy Thompson and Morris Northcutt juggling last minute table requests/changes for the Sportsman’s Dinner, Mike McGowan extracting RI Foundation moneys, Lowell Johnson selling the few BIG raffle tickets remaining and Bill Price selling little raffle tickets.  In addition Richard Simmons was Sgt at Arms, Duncan Cook Setup and the bulletin is a tag-team of Homer Dodge & Dave Covey.

The usual cast of characters were at their assigned duty stations at the table on the way in. (That is our way of saying we failed to note who they were, but they know they are, and if you were at today’s meeting you probably noticed them.)  Bulletin was a shared duty by the regular writer, Greg Horn, who was not present, and his eyes & ears, Mary Covelli Johnson.

President Mick rang us in promptly at 12:30, marking the first day of his final quarter as president. Gee, has 9 months gone by already?

And here is the news for this day, brought to you from all around the world.

TACOMA, March 25.  At 12:30 President Mick Johnson rang the bell, then announced that we would be moving along briskly because we had a packed agenda.  This was evident in the quick handoff to Kismet Kechejian for the invocation, followed by a smart lateral to Mike Block for the Pledge of Allegiance.  The balance of the day’s bench strength included Jay Mayer as Sgt at Arms, Bill Young doing the photography, Gary Fulton ably commanding the Paul Harris Desk, and Ron Adkins as your faithful scribe.

He looked at his watch.  Then he looked again.  Then again, only to discover the same result: 12:30.  And yet there were so few people there, several tables completely empty.  He thought, “What did I say last week…..?”  President Mick finally called the meeting to order, despite the fact that there was no disorder.  He did have a look of confusion on his face you don’t often witness, however….perhaps seen only by Mary when Mick arrives home and doesn’t see his dinner ready.  See below.

Now, let's get out there and bring back some auction items!  Oops, sorry to scoop this week's bulletin feature story we'll just stick to the facts!
