Rotary Clubs of Hernando County are having another Lyngbya clean-out of  Weeki Wachee Springs.  It's fun and you'll be helping our local tourist attraction get rid of a serious environmental problem.  We are starting to see the good grass returning to the springs.  Feel free to invite a friend or relative to help you.  Keep in mind there are jobs both in and out of the water.  Clean-up should last about 2 hours and you are welcome to stay for less time. Wear water-shoes if you are getting into the water and shorts or a bathing suit is recommended if you are getting into the water.

It is refreshing to be in the Weeki Wachee Springs on a hot summer day.  The water temperature is 74 degrees year around.

Whenever I go doing my work in Africa, The Rotarians have been there before me. It Is very humbling thing to discover just exactly what "Service Above Self" adds up to when you see it in practice in the field" ~ Bono

Justin Peele, a graduate of the Rotary Peace Fellowship and an agent of the U.S. Diplomatic Security Service, gets off the plane during his assignment protecting the Secretary of State John Kerry during a trip to South Korea.

As an agent for the U.S. Diplomatic Security Service, Justin Peele applies the education he received in conflict resolution as a Rotary Peace Fellow to a job that puts him in some dicey situations – including one in 2013 in which his actions won him State Department recognition for his courage and decisiveness.

Check out our latest video! About 70 volunteers recently spent a morning cleaning invasive algae out of Weeki Wachee Springs in Hernando County. The volunteer event was a coordinated effort by the District and local rotary clubs to remove a blue-green algae known as Lyngbya.
