| Posted by Roger Currie on May 01, 2013 Hugh Comack spent the last few years of his life at Winnipeg’s Deer Lodge Centre after suffering stroke. It was there that he died on April 16th at the age of 92. It was the end of a long and winding road that included Canada's darkest day in World War Two .. |

| Posted by Frank Cosway MUNA was founded in April, 1957 to expose youth to the world of international politics, through participation in a simulated United Nations Assembly. The next MUNA is planned for May 9 – 11, 2013 at the Canadian Mennonite University, with at least 40 delegations attending. |
| Posted by Frank Cosway  The Rotary Leadership Circle (RLC) program, established in 1996, is a youth leadership development and summer work project for 165 youth ages 10 – 14 years of age, and operates for 6 weeks in the summer. This project was started by David Kennedy and several other members of our Club. The RLC has a Board which includes 5 of our members. Ron Reider is the President of the Board. Our Club provided a $20,000 grant to RLC. |
| Posted by Frank Cosway In 2011, Ismael Muvingi, a former member of our Club visited his homeland of Zimbabwe on his sabbatical and identified the need for this project. During the election violence in Zimbabwe in 2010, many youth were either victims or perpetrators of violence. |
| Posted by Frank Cosway Camp Manitou is a summer camp located on the western outskirts of Winnipeg. The camp provides a wide variety of day camping and overnight camping experiences for inner city youth and their families. Gerry Hirsch has been a strong advocate for this project. |
| Posted by Frank Cosway This project was developed by Strini Reddy, long before he joined our Club. This project is implemented in partnership with a Rotary Club in South Africa. Strini has been very effective at raising funds for this project. In 2014, this may be our first project to qualify for the new Rotary Future Vision funding. |
| Posted by Frank Cosway This program was developed by the Winnipeg Foundation to ensure that financial hurdles should not prevent students from realizing their dream of a college/ university education. Students in grades 5 -12 can earn a “You Can Do It Award” of $1,000 each year, for a possible total of $8,000. |
| Posted by Frank Cosway  Currently, this project is a small scholarship program to support 7 – 8 South Sudanese students who are living in Kenya. These funds include Club Funds ($6,800) and personal donations by Gail & Alex Zahradnitzky. David Atem, one of our members, is from South Sudan. |
| Posted by Frank Cosway CSI is a 5 week Summer Learning Enrichment Program for 1000 elementary school students from the inner city that operates from 15 sites. Launched in 2005, CSI continues to grow each year. Strini Reddy has been the inspiration for this program long before he joined our Club. CSI received a grant of $7,500 from our Club. |
| Posted by Frank Cosway  Alex & Gail Zahradntzky were the founders of this Program under the auspecies of Winniprg West. The Program continues on today under the management of the District World Community Service. Our Club has supported various schools within Guatemala over the past decade. Gail & Alex recently visited Guatemala to implement a new Ripple Effect project, with $4,000 from our Club, to provide some basic science equipment for 5 of the schools we supported in the past. This put smiles on the faces of both children and teachers. |

| Posted by Frank Cosway This project was founded by Kathy Knowles when she lived in Ghana in the late 1980’s. She has been expanding her efforts over the past 2 decades. Our funds ($1,500) are used to provide scholarships for 3 – 4 deserving students who attend some of the Libraries. |

Through World Peace Partners the Club provided 2 bursaries ($3,200) for 2 high school graduates to attend the "Adventures in Global Citizenship" offered by Global College , August 7 – 15th. |
| Posted by Frank Cosway Y.E.S. was established in 1974 as a partnership between the Rotary Club of Winnipeg and the YMCA. Art Jonasson has been Director since 1974, and Norm Podolski since 2008. Y.E.S. assists youth 16 – 29 to find and maintain employment. They support those most at-risk, including aboriginal people, the unemployed and disadvantaged youth, by providing training, assistance and encouragement. All services are free. |
| Posted by Frank Cosway  In 2010, the 750 Rotary Clubs in Canada raised $300,000 (which was matched by CIDA) to construct a 26 room school in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, for 4000 students. |
| Posted by Frank Cosway This is part of a global Rotary campaign started in 1986. Great progress has been made. Only 3 countries still have active polio cases (Afghanistan, Pakistan & Nigeria). But much important work still remains to End Polio Now. ($1,500 was budgeted. Our members have donated at least an additional $5,000.)
