It is with sadness that District 5370 announces the passing of our own Past District Governor Frank Totino (District Governor for Rotary year 1987 - 1988).  Frank passed away at the age of 86, April 5 2012 at 4 pm.

Frank was a Rotarian with the Rotary Club of Edmonton (Downtown) for 39 years joining in 1973.  He served as Club President in 1983 - 1984 and as District Governor 1987 1988.   DG Harry Buddle had recently visited Frank and says "Frank maintained his robust laugh each time we came to see him".

Frank's memorial services will be held Saturday April 21, 2:30 pm at St. Albert Roman Catholic Church, 7 St. Vital Avenue (Mission Hill) , St. Albert.

Rotary Friendship Exchanges are when Rotarians get to travel to each others country and visit.   It is purely for fun and friendship.  This is when a group ofImage Rotarians travels to their district, and then later a group comes to our district. A fantastic way to travel the world and make friends with people you have something in common with: Rotary! Plans are under way for Rotary year 12/13 exchanges and it should include you!  Click this page for complete details

And - thank you Servus!

What is the greatest satisfaction of being a Rotarian?    There are many ways to achieve that and it is different for each Rotarian, but for me it is the look of honest gratefulness in the eyes of people who do not speak my language (and I don’t speak theirs) after receiving a wheelchair that will change their lives (and that of their loved ones) forever.

Past District Governor Alan MacLean initiated a program that would inject much-needed cash into the District coffers. The program was free, painless and required little or no administration effort. The program was called the Husky/Mohawk Loyalty Card Program

Kevin Hilgers of the Rotary Club of Grande Prairie here. I have always struggled with a proper speech when handing out a Paul Harris Fellow. I looked online, couldn't find anything I thought was good enough. The pins come with suggested scripts, but I wanted better. So I typed what I thought would be a proper script. Click HEREto download the script. You'll have to modify, localize, update,  but I think you may find it gives the presentation the proper class and honour it deserves. It's also a sales pitch for WHY we give to RF. There's no sense keeping it to myself. if you find it of use, enjoy. Let me know if you do use it!  I have had clubs from Pennsylvania, California and a few others use it and that's cool.  Kev.  wave@telus.net

Notice anything new on the WebComCentre? That's right! We now have banner advertising available, similar to the feature on the club sites. This is a vehicle to raise some unrestricted funds and it gives individuals or corporations an opportunity to reach a wider audience at a very reasonable rate..

Rotary Districts were first established in 1915, at which time the Calgary Downtown Club was the only one in our area. In 1957, the present District was established as District 536 without change to the geographic boundaries of the original District. Since there were only 30 clubs in the District at the time, Governor Glen Peacock of Calgary initiated an extension drive which resulted in eight new clubs receiving their charters, setting a District record.

The Edmonton Club was chartered in 1916.
