| Posted by Ed Iraci on May 03, 2012 A major challenge that our District faces is the immediate need for clubs to submit to Rotary International your 2011-12 foundation giving. Since the foundation dollars we invest before June 30th come back to our District three years later, it is imperative for us to donate to the RI Foundation TODAY. Otherwise, three years from now we will be shy of the foundation dollars to pay for the District Simplified and International grant programs we all love to support.

It has been several days since we adjourned the District Conference at beautiful Water’s Edge and Spa in Westbrook, Connecticut, and I am still in awe of the favorable comments that were made by the participants via emails and telephones about the location and the informative plenary sessions. We could not have asked for a better year-end conference and celebration for all the Rotarians and guests that registered and attended. . The plenary sessions were well-orchestrated, and if you were in attendance, you got a very good snapshot of all of the things that we do in our district. As the District Governor, I was prepared in my final speech to go over the things we do in our district; however, it was not needed. We had a Past Rotary International Vice President with us for the weekend, and his comment on our conference was that it was “outstanding.” The Rotary International President’s Representative, who delivered a stunning keynote address at the Governor’s Ball, was amazed at the amount of work that is done by the two districts. He stated on several occasions, along with other accolades, that this was the “one of the best district conference he has ever attended.” I personally was not surprised by all of the good wishes of Michael Johns, because we had assembled a tremendous conference committee, and we were kept on track by the Conference Chair, who made sure that everything moved in the direction of a great conference. To the conference staff, I want to express my sincere thanks to you for all the hard work and dedication you displayed to make this a successful conference. I feel extremely blessed to have been surrounded by dedicated Rotarians who worked long hours and gave of their time freely. Yours In Rotary, Irving H. | | Posted by Cornelia (Connie) Gevinski on May 03, 2012 As I continue on this path to District Governor I become more and more aware of how well organized Rotary International has made our organization. Here we are in May and we are firmly entrenched in our plans for 2012-13 starting in July. For example, RYLA has just finished a wonderful annual event. One might think they have some time off now. Just the opposite, they are already meeting and planning next year and even expanding it into a possible Summer Camp.
The GSE committee is seeking the candidates for the team to go to Puerto Rican Schools in August with a Puerto Rican team returning in June 2013. This is not just an easy “get some willing people and place them on a plane”. The team needs to be trained in language, culture and Rotary. Then make sure all paperwork is processed. Not an easy task. Especially this year when another team is leaving just 2 months before!
The Rotary Foundation Committee could be on the downswing of the year with processing grants is partially over, but now the final reports need to be received while they are starting to seek projects for next year and make those international connections that take up so much time. Plus, next year their task is going to be behemoth because they will have to do the usual procedure plus secure the matches and request for funding before the end of June 2013 for the 2013-14 year which also means coordination with District 7250 since those grants will be for District 7255.
Youth Exchange has already held the interviews and are in the midst of training the students who will be going out on Exchange next year. This is while they watch over and maintain the students who are inbound and outbound this year. They always are seeking Host Parents. Why not consider it! I heard a wonderful comments from two members of my club who were talking about “their children” even though they did not have children of their own, the Exchange kids they hosted were very much their own and many years later they are still in contact. And our two inbound students did a presentation and finished with ”Thanks for giving us the best year of our life!”.
If you are an officer of your club you are very aware of all these workings behind the scenes, but if you are a member who just comes every week you may not realize this well oil machine. Jump in and help us keep this machine working……….become a part of your club doing your part! Plus our machine is aging…………..bring in some new Youth to Rotary.
Yours In Rotary, Connie Gevinski PROUD TO BE A ROTARIAN!---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Posted by Gwen Ramage-Wons on Apr 26, 2012 Just returned from Governor Irving Toliver's and Governor Gabor Karsai's District Conference at Water's Edge in Westbrook, Connecticut. It is a beautiful location on the Sound and we had great weather and great attendance. This was the last District Conference that the two Districts(7250 and 7260) held together until we merge into District 7255 on July 1st, 2013 and become one District. Next year's Governors decided to hold separate conferences.
The plenary sessions were educational and the RI President Representative Mike Jones' speeches were moving and RI Past Vice President Abe Gordon's were inspiring and funny.
However, the Interactors, Rylarians, Exchange Students and Rotaractors stole the show. Their presentations and videos were original, funny and uplisting. If we only get half of these youngsters to become Rotarians then we and Rotary will be blessed and we will have membership growth which we badly need. That is what it is all about to get young people to join Rotary be dedicated and go up the ladder.
Announcement: There will be no COPS Meeting on May 19th at the Marriott. It will be on June 2nd. Further details to come in May.
Yours in Rotary

Club secretaries can enter the attendance on their own ClubRunner site or directly into the district site. | | Posted by ED IRACI on Jul 15, 2010 TWO "SHOULDS": 1. Each club should hold a "Club Assembly" on a regular basis. Consider the advantages of devoting one regular meeting each month to imparting and/or gathering Rotary information, Rotary education, and leadership training and sharing thoughts and feelings of the club members regarding Rotary. It is also an excellent opportunity for the club's president to gather the information needed in order to complete District and RI reports. 2. Although only a "should" and not a requirement, once a month should be a program about Rotary. Members of your own club should be your first choice: someone working on International or Club Service, for instance. Next should be District Committee people. By the way: Share information about your club's speakers and give us feedback about ours!
