Tour Rides:
2013 BATAVIA LIONS CLUB HILL CLIMBER CYCLE TOUR WILL BE HELD ON JUNE 8, 2013.
THE RIDES:
This is a great chance for you to get ready for the riding season. The rides are located in the beautiful Genesee region of Western New York, in an area known for its beautiful rolling hills, farms, large tracts of state use land, Parks, historic landmarks, Civil and Revolutionary War cemetery’s, 18th century villages and .. last but not least… perfect, relatively auto free country roads that seem to stretch out as far as the eye can see.
The hill climber cycle tour consists of two ride options on a Saturday in June . The rides themselves consist of a 19 mile ride, neatly tucked inside a more challenging 48 mile hill climber. Both rides start out in the city and after about a mile they turn onto Creek Road, a quiet flat country road that winds south for about 7 miles before turning East. This is where the two rides part company. The 19 mile ride has three moderate hills with a total elevation of 269 feet. It’s a bit of a challenge but not too tough.
The second ride is designed to challenge the early season rider. It goes straight south and for its first 15 miles, goes continually up from the beginning elevation of 850 feet to the top of Mollassis hill, at an elevation of over 1600 feet From here, at the top of the hill SAG stop, on a clear day you’ll be able to see Rochester.
From here, it courses through a series of up hills and down hills, taking you through Genesee County Park, through the Carleton Hill State use land, and remote country sides. For riding perfectionists, the ride is 47.89 miles long, has a total climb of 1,742 feet and a maximum elevation of 1706 feet.
If you look closely at the maps, you’ll see that the ride can either be lengthened or shortened simply by cutting across the Carelton Hill State use Land going east west. The vast majority of the roads going through the State land are well maintained , some paved as late as last summer and many of the east west hills are SERIOUS challenges. For riding clubs that wish to make this an early season BUTT KICKER, call us and we will accommodate you as best we can.
As we did last year, all roads will be clearly marked, we will have people at important intersections to help you and a crew of vans, trucks and motorcycles will help you if you have a flat, a mechanical problem, or simply can’t finish the ride.
Along the way, we’ll have stops in Genesee County Park, at the top of Mollassis Hill, at the Historic Library building in the Town of Wyoming, NY and at the mile point of the 19 mile ride, which will be the 38 mile point of the 48 mile ride.
In the end, the ride will end at the City Slickers, Lions Club Octoberfest in June party, which shares a parking lot with the starting point of the tour. Here, you’ll get a complimentary German Lunch and a beer chip.
The ride will also coincide with a few other events that will make it a great Saturday. First, there is the Cycle Raffle, where you can win either a cycle from Adam Millers Bike shop, or a gift certificate for the value of the bike. (You’ll get one free raffle ticket for riding.) There will be the Lions Club, Batavia Police Department bike fix up and give away. (You’re free to volunteer.) And finally the Octoberfest in June, which promises to be a great time.
In the end, you’ll be helping the Batavia Lions Club, and Lions Club international in our worldwide drive to help the blind, the deaf, the elderly and our future generations. In the end, it’s a great cause.
