International Service

Our service is global

International service encompasses actions taken to expand Rotary's humanitarian reach around the globe and to promote world understanding and peace.

  • Micro-lending Projects -- The club has an micro-lending project in the Philippines and is pursuing more such activities.  The goal is to help people get out of poverty by providing funds needed, which are typically very small amounts, to set up businesses.  As these small businesses grow and prosper, the loans are repaid and lent again to other aspiring entrepreneurs.  These enterprises help people with little other hope to become self-sufficient.
  • Children's Health Projects -- The club is actively involved in a coalition of Rotary District 5330 clubs called CHIPs -- Children's Health International Projects.  Through CHIPs, the Murrieta Rotary sends medical missions to impoverished parts of the world to do surgical repair cleft lips and palates on kids in need.  Closer to home, we are part of quarterly, two-day  missions to Ensenada, Mexico, where we assist in staffing and supporting the Thousand Smiles dental clinic, providing cleft lip and palate repairs on a more limited basis, but also other dental care for the poor youngsters in that area.  This program offers more members hands-on experience with international service.
