OUTBOUND INTERVIEWS: November 25, 2012
District interviews held for students planning on going abroad in 2013.
INBOUND AND OUTBOUND SPRING EVENT: March 2-3, 2013
This event is held in Davenport at a local hotel. This inter-cultural and team building event is the second training opportunity for the 2013 Outbound Class to learn from the 2012 Inbound Class. The North Scott Rotary Club sponsors this event. Attendance is mandatory for all 2012 inbound and 2013 outbound students.
OUTBOUND ORIENTATION: March 17, 2013 – 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM
This orientation session will be held at Central College in Pella. Outbound students and their parents will continue training in preparation for their exchange. The Rotary Club of Pella sponsors this event. Attendance is mandatory for all 2013 outbound students and at least one parent of each student.
INBOUND AND OUTBOUND - DISTRICT CONFERENCE: April 12-13, 2013
This event will be held at Honey Creek Resort. It is a training session and a final fellowship of both the inbound and outbound exchange students. Attendance is mandatory for all 2012 inbound and 2013 outbound students.
INBOUND ROTARY TOUR OF THE USA: June – July 2013
This is a scheduled bus tour of the United States. Approximately 8,000 miles long, it leaves from the Amana exit going west to California, south to San Diego, and east through Texas to Orlando, Florida, north to New York City and west through Chicago and returning to Amana.
OUTBOUND PICNIC: July 14, 2013 - 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM (tentative)
This event is scheduled to be held at Woodland Park, Newton, Iowa. It is the final training session for 2012 outbound students. This event provides a time last minute questions and answers. Also, some “rebound” students (recently returned outbound students) will be available to relate some of their experiences. The Rotary Club of Newton sponsors this event. Attendance is mandatory for all 2013 outbound students and at least one parent.
INBOUND STUDENT FALL PICNIC: September 21, 2013 – 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM
The Fall Kickoff Picnic will be held at the Johnson County Fairgrounds in Iowa City. This event serves as a training session for inbound students, host families and Rotary Counselors and Local Coordinators. Attendance is mandatory for all participants.
INBOUND FALL FUN DAY: October 19, 2013 – 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.
This is an optional but highly recommended event for all inbound students, their host families and parents of 2013 outbound students at the County Fair Grounds in Indianola. This event serves as a social and team-building opportunity for the students and allows them to interact with each other after being in Iowa for two months. It also allows the host families, parents of outbound students and counselors to share experiences with each other and the committee. The Rotary Club of Indianola sponsors this event.
OUTBOUND APPLICATIONS: November 15, 2013
Applications for the 2014 Outbound Class, for departure in August 2014, are due from the Sponsoring Clubs to the District Committee for district interviews.
OUTBOUND INTERVIEWS: November 23, 2013
District Outbound interviews will be held for students planning on going abroad in 2014. Times and locations for the interviews will be announced according to participation. An interview is required with each applicant and his or her parent(s).
INBOUND AND OUTBOUND WINTER RETREAT: January 18 – 19, 2014
This retreat will be held at Camp Wesley Woods near Indianola. This event is a training session, in addition to being a social event. The afternoon of the second day is also mandatory for at least one parent of each 2014 outbound student. Attendance is mandatory both days for all 2013 inbound and 2014 outbound students.
