You’re probably aware that the Humane Society of Chittenden County is in the “business” of finding new homes for animals in need. But did you know that HSCC is the only shelter in Vermont to employ a humane investigator? Or that a team from HSCC is out in the community every week sterilizing feral cats? Or that Miss Vermont is helping HSCC change the public perception of pit bulls? The staff at HSCC work on a much broader scope than many people realize: from touching the everyday lives of citizens to working with local government. Megan Stearns, Director of Development & Outreach at HSCC, will introduce you to the many ways in which animal lives are being saved in Chittenden and Grand Isle counties.

The American Red Cross has been offering humanitarian services for more than 130 years and is one of the most recognizable non-profits in the country.  However, there is much that the Red Cross does that you may not know.  Large scale disaster response and blood drives readily come to mind, but in this presentation you will learn about an organization whose roots are firmly connected with serving our armed forces, that teaches kids vital babysitting skills, and responded to 150 “small” disasters in our region over the past year.  You will also learn how the work of the Red Cross simply would not happen without the tireless work of volunteers.  The presentation promises to provide you a deeper look at an organization you thought you knew.
