"3-D Printing - Revolutionizing trend"
|
3D Printing is a Game Changer
Instantly printing parts and entire products, anywhere in the world, is a game changer. But it doesn’t stop there. 3D printing will affect almost every aspect of industry and our personal lives.
Medicine will forever be changed as new bioprinters actually print human tissue for both pharmaceutical testing and eventually entire organs and bones.
Architecture and construction are changing as well. Now, 3D-printed models of complex architectural drawings are created quickly and inexpensively, rather than the expensive and time-consuming process of handcrafting models out of cardboard. And experimental, massive 3D printers are printing concrete structures, with the goal of someday building entire buildings with a 3D printer.
Art is already forever changed. Digital artists are creating magnificent pieces that seem almost impossible to have been made by traditional methods. From sculptures to light fixtures, beautiful objects no longer need to be handcrafted, just designed on a computer.
And there are developments where you least expect them: for example, archeologists can 3D scan priceless and delicate artifacts, and then print copies of them so they can handle them without fear of breakage. Replicas can be easily made and distributed to other research facilities or museums. It has been used to create a full-size reproduction of King Tutankhamun’s mummy and to repair Rodin’s sculpture, The Thinker.
The Future of 3D Printing
This is a disruptive technology of mammoth proportions, with effects on energy use, waste, customization, product availability, art, medicine, construction, the sciences and of course manufacturing. It will change the world as we know it. Before you know it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5AZzOw7FwA
The 3d Printing Store opened in Denver, Colorado in November, 2012. Cofounders Debra Wilcox and Kenton Kuhn decided that 3d printing was a cool technology, well known to engineers, but not readily available to the public. The idea of a bricks and mortar store seemed to be the best way to make this a consumer facing reality. With a growing list of customers, the 3d printing store has quickly become the place to Print Your Ideas.

"The Geologic History of Colorado"
|
I've been giving this one to non-geologist groups. I cover the history of Colorado through geologic time with visuals like this below. Show an "artist's conception" of Colorado (here with Utah-New Mexico-Arizona) at a point in geologic time, accompanied by pictures of the rocks that were produced during that time and how they look today. Jim Burnell is the Senior Minerals Geologist with the Colorado Geological Survey, responsible for metals, uranium, and industrial minerals. Jim is a Pennsylvania native who has lived in Colorado for 18 years. A Vietnam veteran, Jim received a bachelor’s degree in geology from Franklin and Marshall College, a M.S. from the University of Minnesota – Duluth, and a PhD from Brown University. He has been involved in teaching (Auburn University), research (Pacific Northwest National Laboratory), and worked in the fields of minerals, hazardous waste, and general geologic and management consulting and for a Native American Tribal organization in the private sector. With the State of Colorado since 1997, Jim joined the CGS in 2007. HOST: Tom Larkin

"Hear the Impact of Our RYLA Scholarships"
|
Marc Solnet:
It would be the entire program. I think we can fill the whole time slot, like we did last August. We talked about sharing iwth with the Race, but then we ended up doing the whole program and I think it was very successful. About RYLA Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is Rotary's leadership training program for young people. RYLA participants can be ages 14-30, but most clubs and districts choose to focus on a narrower age range, such as 14-18 or 19-30. RYLA emphasizes leadership, citizenship, and personal growth, and aims to - Demonstrate Rotary's respect and concern for youth
- Provide an effective training experience for selected youth and potential leaders
- Encourage leadership of youth by youth
- Recognize publicly young people who are rendering service to their communities

"Using Your Brain to Win in Today's Hyper-paced World"
|
Are You Ready to Be Insanely Successful?
Your brain is either your most powerful competitive weapon or your biggest obstacle to success. It all depends on how you use it.
Using Your Brain to Win explores why parts of the brain are not well suited for today’s hyper-paced world, how that leads us to miss obvious opportunities and threats to our businesses, and why we often make flawed decisions based on fantasy rather than fact.
- Overcome the brain’s built-in blind spots that get in the way of your success
- Let go of outdated ways of thinking and working that keep you stuck in the past
- Get and keep your organization focused on winning
- Slow down in order to go fast
Holly G. Green is CEO of The Human Factor, Inc. A former president of The Ken Blanchard Companies and LumMed, Inc. she combines leading neurological research with hands-on leadership experience to create the tools, techniques, and competencies companies and individuals need to win in today’s hyper-paced markets.
