Neponset Valley Sunrise Rotary and Dedham Health & Athletic Complex Team Up to Collect Essentials
DEDHAM, MA, November 15, 2011 — The Neponset Valley Sunrise (NVS) Rotary Club is once again promoting the Annual Holiday Season Clothing Drive and has partnered with Dedham Health and Athletic Complex (DHAC) to benefit Homeless shelters throughout the Boston area that have been hit by budget cuts and decreased donations.
As in past years, the focus is on collecting the small things that are needed most — NEW socks, underwear, gloves, mittens and hats, and toiletries for men, women, and children. These small, inexpensive items are often in very short supply and the need is great, especially during the winter months. Donations of almost new, gently used, seasonal clothing such as pants, shirts, sweaters, and coats are also welcome.
The clothing drive kicked off at DHAC on November 1st and will run through December 16th. Lloyd Gainsboro, owner of DHAC and a NVS Rotary member, quickly offered to collect clothing at DHAC at 200 Providence Highway in Dedham. “Dedham Health is proud to be part of this clothing drive,” Gainsboro said. “We’ve collected clothing in past years and are glad we can do our part to help those in need once again. We are encouraging our members and the public to do what they can to donate those small but essential new items for families.”
NVS Rotary recognizes that this year the need is greater than ever. Member Jack Hoell, who is spearheading the drive, said, “This year the homeless shelters are struggling through massive budget problems. These shelters rely on the generosity and good will of government, individuals, and corporate donors to meet their needs. When the economy takes a turn for the worse, so does the help they receive.” The club is also accepting cash donations that will be used to purchase the items above. Donations can be made payable to Neponset Valley Sunrise Rotary, PO Box 4031, Dedham, MA 02027. Please note that the donation is for the clothing drive.
