| "Green Deer": Leave it Better than You Found It. by Wright, Liane
Once again this year, Rotarians from the Red Deer Centennial Club pitched in to lend a hand in cleaning up Red Deer.

Red Deerians don’t like litter. Most would never dream of littering, and an astounding number come forth each spring – individually, in groups, and as businesses – armed with pickers, gloves and bags, to clean up the trash and litter that have accumulated through the winter.
During the Green Deer campaign and throughout the year, the careless actions of a few are cancelled out by the energy and caring of the majority – the people who love Red Deer and take pride in the beauty of our community.

Janet is a stellar and devoted member of the Rotary Club of Red Deer Centennial. When things fall between the cracks, she puts up her hand and they get done. she is truly a valued Rotarian.
Janet moved to Red Deer from Niagra Falls to be with her mother. She joined Rotary three years ago to "meet people".
She has been Treasurer of of the club for the past two years and served on the Casino Committee where proceeds supported Habitat for Humanity, Womens' Outreach, Red Deer Foodbank and Lifeline. She presently chairs our major fundraiser - Newfoundland Dance.
She is our President Elect.
Janet participates in other activities we are involved in, including 'Guess Who's Coming to Dinner', Red Deer Rebels 50/50 Ticket sales, Foodbank, Children's Festival BarBQ and 'Green Deer'.
In her "spare time" she works in accounting at Collins Barrow LLP. Janet has a son and daughter, and even better, two of the most delightful grandchildren in the world.
"Rotary is an amazing organization. I did not realize at the time I joined, that it is International in scope and all the wonderful causes it is associated with. It gives me great pleasure to be aligned with a Service Club that is so involved world wide with educating the underpriviledged, helping others to help themselves and making our own communities a better place to be."

| Red Deer Centennial Selected for International Toast by Liane Wright
Our club received international recognition from Austratia recently!
Sent: 2010, May, 24 1:27 AM
To: Johnson, Deborah - Secretary
Subject: International Toast
Hello Deb
Just a friendly note to let you and your club know that as a member of Rotary Sunrise Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia, I was on roster to find a Rotary Club to conduct the International Toast to.
I selected your club for a number of reasons, Firstly: how much information you have on your Web Site, Secondly: How you support the building of a Girls School in Malawi, (as we support a Girls orphanage in Nepal through one of our own members)and lastly I was lucky enough to be able to visit your part of the world a number of years ago when I served in the Australia Military, you have a beautiful Country.
I mentioned your President, Secretary and Treasurer as well as the winner of the Ace of Spades (Well Done Christy - there is a story this side as well), I spoke when you were Chartered 100th Year of Rotary with 10 other clubs worldwide.
I wish you and your club all the best for the future and a long life in Rotary.
Cheers,
Bob Davis
Thanks for the International Toast Bob! If you are ever back in this part of the world, be sure to join us for a meeting! | |
