Northwest takes the Trophy
by Armstrong, Wanda

Image“Northwest takes the Trophy”

For the fifth year in a row, Rotary Club of Northwest Des Moines sold more tickets per member than any other club in the Des Moines Area.  This year, thanks to the initiative of Polio Plus Iowa Energy Committee members, Frank Hayer (Waukee), Mike Thibodeau (West Polk), Vernette Riley (Perry), Drew Engebrecht (Greater Des Moines), Sharon Jasa (Boone), and Jacque Andrew (Jefferson), a formal competition among the clubs was initiated.  This writer is more than a little embarrassed, but also a little proud that the “Arnold Cup” will be a traveling trophy presented to the Club selling the most tickets per member.  Results for 2013 were;  Waukee – 2.36, East Polk – 2.63, West Polk – 5.33, and Northwest – 8.05 tickets per member.  Congratulations Northwest!  More importantly, the event raised over $9,000, which will provide immunizations for approximately 15,000 children.

Rotary Polio Plus Night at Iowa Energy - February 9
by Armstrong, Wanda

ImageDes Moines area Rotary clubs will again partner with the Iowa Energy to help raise funds for the eradication of polio worldwide.

Rotary will again partner with the Iowa Energy to help raise funds for the eradication of polio worldwide. Polio exists today in only three countries; Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Nigeria. A 60 cent immunization will keep a child from contracting polio. To this end, the Iowa Energy has priced their sideline $20.00 tickets at $16.00 to Rotarians and their friends and will give back to Rotary $8.00 for each ticket we sell to the Saturday , February 9, 2013, 7:00 PM game against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants at Wells Fargo Arena. Therefore, purchasing two tickets for $32.00 would provide Rotary’s Polio Eradication effort with a $16.00 rebate from Iowa Energy, and more importantly, immunize 27 children from the polio virus. In addition to all the above, the Denver Nuggets Dance Team and Mascot, will be the halftime entertainment.
