The Rotary Club of Jackson Hole Foundation has as its mission "To support the advancement of education by providing scholarships to students and educators in our community while aiding other charitable needs of individuals and organizations as deemed appropriate." 

This year the Foundation awarded $60,000 to 36 students, awards that ranged from $1000 to $4,500. Each year about 120 worthy students apply.  The students will use this Rotary Foundation money to attend colleges like Wyoming, Oklahoma, Columbia, Northwestern, Brigham Young, Colorado School of Mines, Duke, North Carolina, Hawaii, Miami, Gonzaga and Montana State.

The student's interests range from sports to dance, from being a doctor to being a chef, from robots to music, from Up With People to helping the needy at St John’s Hospital. And many of the 36 students were straight A students for 4 years. Importantly, scholarships are also awarded to students who have demonstrated a “turnaround” in their lives to include school, family and attitude. Vocational training focused is also recognized and scholarships are available for students choosing those opportunities as well.

Recipients included graduating seniors from JHHS, Summit, Community School and Journey's School. In addition teachers from all schools are eligible for educator scholarship. Other support includes an annual Nursing scholarship is granted for a candidate identified by and committed to working at St. John's Hospital. Moreover, the Foundation annually issues 15-25 other grants awarding an additional $15-25,000 for support of meaningful organizational and individual initiatives in the community.

In addition the Foundation awards $5-10,000 in scholarships to educators to for continuing or advanced education. This year we received 30 applications for those grants.

The Foundation is able to give scholarships to students and educators and issue other grant awards as a result of money raised through one primary fundraiser combined with the donations and generosity of the community. Our biggest fundraiser is the Rotary Wine Fest (May 24, 2013), followed by Old Bill’s Fun Run and donations from Rotarians and other members of the community throughout the year.   

Rotary and its local Foundation are proud to be able to support our students…over $800,000 in scholarships. With the community’s help that will continue as well as our support of other needs within our community.
