Announcements
by Sheahen, Christopher

Fred Orkin will be holding a Literacy Committee meeting on June 3, at 11 am.

Cliff Bregstone is in the hospital, on the mend and should be back in a few weeks. He's doing fine, but requests no visitors.

Cheryl Levi reminds the Club that the Adopt a Highway clean up will be later in the year. More details will follow.

Dawn LoCascio announced the Club will participate in the HP July 4th parade. She has secured a permit and will have further details in the coming weeks.

Steve Greene's wife will be a soloist with the Chicago Philharmonic at the Harris Theatre downtown on June 14.

Visiting Rotarian Howard Fisher presented us with a flag from his Rotary Club in CA. He has 45 years of perfect attendance.

Dawn says the recent Gala netted $24,000 for charity. Well done! She also encouraged members to attend the opening of Legends Park at West Ridge Park in HP on June 5. Our Club will have a prominent banner.

HP Rotary History - Weekly Blast from the Past
by Rasmussen, Carole

This appeared in the Rotarian in 1938.

Keep "The Rotarian" close to your desk, or have your wife put it next to your easy chair, so when you reach for a cigar, cup of coffee or a highball with your right hand, you can reach for "The Rotarian" with your left.

Still good advice!

Today's Program
by Sheahen, Christopher

The 3 students we sponsored at RYLA spoke of their experiences.  Lisa Friederich from HPHS introduced David Max, Miranda Dotson, and Susan Nava.  Each related their opinions on the conference and what they gained from it.  All said it helped them be better public speakers, and gain confidence. They met other future leaders and are keeping in touch. They showed a short video.

We had a presentation from a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar, Merwan Ben Lamine, a French Morrocan, studying at Kellogg.   He spoke of comparisons between MBA students and Rotarians.  Today's MBA programs get students to make a difference, change lives and the world, and make an impact.  Those ideas dovetail with Rotary.  Kellogg students participate in International Service trips, Community Impact Days, Student Conferences and Student Service Clubs.  Students also work with local not for profits.  They're being taught some of what we Rotarians do.  Merwan and his wife have already raised funds to move an orphanage to a better home.  He believes people today are all "connected" by technology and can work as a team to changes things and help people.
