Outgoing President receives warm adieu

Thank you Julie Elmore for serving as President of the Rotary Club for 2012-2013. Julie and her husband David will be moving to Michigan next week and they will be missed greatly. A gathering was held Wednesday June 12, 2013 at East End Park for Rotarians to give well wishes.

Not your typical motley crew!

All geared up for the cold weather and filled to the brim with coffee and Hanson donuts Nome Rotarians and friends participated in city wide cleanup on Saturday June 9th.  Crews picked up trash along Seppala Drive to Bering Air. While another crew lead by President-Elect Sylvester cleaned up trash and raked the volleyball court at East End Park.  Over 30 bags of trash were collected.

•   Mike Bridges Scholarship - Diana Handeland ($500 each year in school)

•   Dan Karmun Scholarship - Zachary Sullivan ($500 each year in school

•   One Time Scholarship - Rebecca Sherman-Luce ($500 in 2013-2014)

•   One Time Scholarship - Timothy Schmidt ($500 in 2013-2014)

 

Additionally, The Rotary Club of Nome awarded 8 additional $500 scholarships for Mike Bridges & Dan Karman Scholarships recipients from years past who continue to attend school and are working towards their degrees.

Nome Beltz Choir joins Rotary

The Nome Beltz Choir joined Rotarians during our weekly lunch meeting at Airport Pizza. What an amazing group of young talented students!

BBQ Funraiser

Its not a fundraiser, but a fun raiser! Come on down for lunch in the parking lot of Old St. Joes. We'll be grilling up some juicy dogs with all the fixing, chips, and drinks on Tuesday April 16th from 11:30 to 1:00. $10 per meal. Funds raised go towards Nome Rotary Club projects locally and world wide.

  • District Governor Peggy Pollen Visits Wednesday, August 29 - She will be our program next week.  Activities planned for her are as below.  If you would like to visit with her outside those times, please call or text me at 304-2105 and we'll arrange a time and location.
    • Rotary Weekly Meeting @ noon at Airport Pizza
    • Tour of East End Park @ 4pm
    • Meeting with Rotary Board @ 6:30 pm at Bering Sea Restaurant
    • Rest of Rotarians Join for dinner @ 7:00 pm at Bering Sea Restaurant
  • Rotary Gear Orders Closed - Special thank you to Lisa Schobert for organizing this and paying the shipping on the orders!!
  • Membership Application in Process - Please check your e-mail for a message from Sue Greenly requesting members to submit letters of support or non-support for the applicant.  Attached to that e-mail is also our current Rotary Club of Nome membership application.
  • Duck Race Tickets Update - Get your tickets from Lisa!  Adam sent around a sign-up sheet at the meeting today for selling tickets at AC next week.  Adam should be sending via e-mail an updated sign-up list soon, so please check your e-mail for that.  We have committed to sell at AC Monday, August 27 through Sunday, September 2.  It's great to have at least 2 people selling in the AC Lobby at the times we have been allotted - it helps to build excitement!!
  • Duck Race - Monday, September 3 at 2:00 pm.  Rotarians needed on the day to help with duck collection.  I'm looking for one more Rotarian to ride in the boat with me and Charlie.  Interested?  E-mail or call me at 304-2105.
  • Blueberry Festival Fundraiser - We brought in over $400 on Saturday at the Blueberry Festival selling reindeer dogs and water.  This is thanks for Rotarian Mike Brawner and school administrators, Scott Handley (Nome-Beltz Principal), Doug Bushey (Nome-Beltz Dean of Students), Bob Grimes (Nome Elementary Principal), and Nina Grimes (wife of Nome Elementary Principal).  Please be sure to introduce yourself and thank them when you see them in the community!!
  • East End Park Work Day - Saturday, August 25 at 9:00 am ~ now tentative.  Stay tuned to your e-mail for updates.  The posthole digger is not available and the only thing we would be doing is staining the pavilion and pulling weeds.  We are waiting for better weather.
  • Road Clean-Up - Saturday, September 8 at 10:00 am at the Nome Cemetery.

ClubRunner is a database-backed membership communication tool. Accessible by all club members, it allows you to communicate much more effectively, as well as saves you valuable time. Online registrations for events and volunteer activities, automatic email services, and an integrated e-Bulletin, among other features, makes it easy to promote your club's activities.

The website features easy to use content management tools, where you don't need to know HTML or FTP to update it. Accessible by any club member with a browser and Internet connection, it stays current with less effort.
