The Community Foundation of the Verdugos
by White, Rick

This week's speaker will be Edna Karinski, the Chief Executive Officer of The Community Foundation of the Verdugos.  Founded in 1956, The Community Foundation of the Verdugos (formerly the Glendale Community Foundation) exists to improve the quality of life for the people of the Verdugo area - Burbank, Glendale, La Crescenta, La Cañada Flintridge, Montrose, and Verdugo City - by maintaining community assets to support nonprofit community organizations.

The Foundation administers gifts as grants according to donors' wishes, and uses the income generated by interest from financial investments from unrestricted gifts to fund hard asset acquisitions (i.e., capital equipment and improvements) and programming for local charities that make them more efficient and effective.

As a Glendale resident, Edna has worked in the region for over 21 years with combined experience in marketing and communications and as a non-profit Development Director. Karinski's local affiliations include the Glendale Symphony Board of Trustees, the Glendale Unified School District Superintendent's Advisory Council, and as a columnist for PTA news in the Glendale News Press.

Should be a great meeting.

Jewel City Fun and Fitness Ride -- The RECAP
by Swanberg, Richard

Today's meeting (June 6) involved a re-cap of the our First Jewel City Fun and Fitness Ride held on May 19, 2013. Bill Knauf reported that the ride has generated over $13,500 net profit for our Glendale Rotary Foundation. Sam Carvajal presented an excellent slide show which highlighted our members making this Rotary event a huge success. President Brian Bergh thanked all of the Rotarians who made this event a success. He gave special thanks to Natalie Kumoro for all of the work she and her committee did to make this event so successful.

Our Presidential Demotion party will be held on June 29th at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Glendale. Cocktails will be from 6:00 - 7:00 pm with dinner at 7:00 pm. Let us send out President Bergh with STYLE!

We have raised over $3000 for our disaster relief efforts to help the victims of the recent Oklahoma tornadoes. Thanks to all of the Rotarians who contributed to this cause and especially to Sam Carvajal who made a matching contribution to all of us who donated to the Foundation.

Jerry Tomsic reminded us again that the Red Cross will be having their annual fund raiser at Forest Lawn on June 20th. Tickets are $50 and you can buy them from Jerry, Larry Tison, or Jack Kabateck
