No Glory This Year, But...
2013 Bowling for Kids Sake A Great Success...& Fun!
A huge thanks to all who came out to participate - either as "crack bowlers" or will wishers and cheerleaders - on Feb. 3rd for the annual Bowl For Kids Sake in Merrimack, sponsored by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Nashua and Greater Salem.
Where the HBRC team lacked in bowling skills we more than made up for in heart, grit, fun, and interesting technique. There were no major fist fights, very little spitting or name calling, and only one or two threatened law suits. We'll save all that for next year.
We also need our own bowling shirts like Milford had....
Bowlers from left to right: Venu "The Outsourcer" Rao, Kevin "The Professor" Rowland, Peter "Mr. Bigshot" Bennett, Vince "the Vice" Chamberlain, Mike "The Strike" O'Neill, and Basil "Put The Camera Away Already" Harris (not shown)
The great news though was that our little club raised $750 for the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization on relatively short notice. Thanks to all who contributed to this wonderful charity again this year.
Biggest highlights from the night:
- Vince "the Vice" Chamberlain (our alternate for Venu who got held up at work and was gracious enough to turn his slot over to Vince. Classy move, Venu!) went from never having laid eyes on a 10 pin bowling ball to transforming himself into a genuine Big Ball Ninja.
- Mike "the Strike" O'Neill kept us in the running with his "out of nowhere" strikes and spares all night.
- "Professor" Kevin Rowland, the most experienced of all of us, gave team members winning tips on form and delivery (thanks, Kevin!).
- Peter "Mr. Bigshot" Bennett wowed the fans with his smooth moves and cool demeanor.
- .... and to our fans Kathy Sirak, Cindy Tsao, Sandy Chamberlain, Clark Lambert, Sharon O'Neill, (who did I miss?) - thanks for coming out on a cold night and warming the place up with us. You were the greatest!

Once again, a rousing "Thank You" to all for your support and participation. From where I sit, it was truly a fine night of fellowship, fun, food, and fund raising - Three Cheers!

Venu Rao Honored for Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts
Club Member Venu Rao was recently presented with a Paul Harris Fellowship Award by DG Tony Gilmore (see picture) for his outstanding efforts in coordinating and helping to distribute Hurricane Sandy relief supplies to needy families in the New York/New Jersey area.
Following the historic storm Governor Gilmore called on Rao to coordinate the efforts of District 7870 clubs in N.H. in assembling clothing, food, household articles, and other necessary supplies at a central location in Nashua for shipment south. The project went off remarkably smoothly with an almost full 50-foot tractor trailer load of supplies making the delivery in late November.
Thanks and congratulations to Venu for taking the lead in this ambitious effort and bringing the project to a successful conclusion.
| 2013 Rotary Family Brunch by Cormier, Robert
Another Great Success!
HB Rotary Family Brunch
The Hollis-Brookline Rotary Club once again offered a fine selection of brunch cuisine as well as entertainment at their annual Family Brunch. The event took place on Sunday, February 3rd, 2012 (Super Bowl Sunday) at the Alpine Grove Banquet Facility in Hollis, N.H. The event ran from 8:30 AM until 12:30 p.m., giving guests plenty of time to get home to watch the big game after a great meal with family and friends.
This year the event raised over $10,000 for a variety of charitable causes, including educational grants and academic scholarships, in the local community and beyond.

It is was rewarding again to see how so many people mix with old friends they have not seen all year and how families young and old enjoyed catching up while enjoying so many various dishes.
A sampling of the menu: Steamship Roast Beef; Buttermilk Pancakes;
Roast Turkey; Baked Ham; Fresh Eggs; Fresh Breads; Bagels; Muffins; Bacon;
Sausage; Hash; Baked Beans; Home Fries; Cole Slaw; Fresh Fruits; Veggies;
Juices; Pies, Pastries, Cheeses and Crackers not to mention the endless
Coffee, Tea and Cocoa !!! Something for every palette !!!!
Many guests bought tickets for friends, or brought the whole family or neighbors.
Rotary thanks all of those who helped our many charitable causes while enjoying a great time out. The cost was $20 in advance, or $25 at the door; children under 10 were free (including the clowns and animal balloons !).
If you didn't make it this year, remember that it will all happen again in 2014! | Joke of the Month by Harris Jr., Basil
Lawyers Say The Darndest Things
A lawyer phoned the governor’s mansion shortly after midnight. “I need to talk to the governor, it’s an emergency!” exclaimed the lawyer. After some cajoling, the governor’s assistant agreed to wake him up. “So, what is it that’s so important that it can’t wait until morning?” grumbled the governor. “Judge Pierson just died, and I want to take his place,” beg the attorney. “Well, it’s OK with me if it’s OK with the mortuary,” replied the governor.
