SuperShcade's Foundation
by Adamski, Angel

A 501c3 Foundation that works with local businesses and organizations to raise funds to benefit families who care for children and young adults with special needs, and to educate the community about developmental disabilities.

On July 9, 2014 we welcomed James Schade to introduce us to the SuperSchade's Foundation.  James explained the mission of the Foundation is to help with summer camp cost for low income families who care for children and young adults with special needs.  Furthermore the Foundation works with local special needs support groups and non-profit organizations, in hope to encourage all disabilities to interact together in all social and physical activities and not segregate children from one another, providing a better quality of life for that young child or adult.

SuperSchade's Foundation has accomplished many things so far including:

  • Summer Camp guides distributed to local schools and to over 6,000 families
  • raised $2,200 through a golf outing to send 11 kids to the summer camp of their choice in 2013
  • Lunch buffet Fundraisers raising about $400 to send to Sarah's Garden for the benefit of Mark Bollinger so he may receive 4 hyperbaric Chamber therapies to reduce weekly seizures

The Foundation has goals for the future and a plan on how to reach those goals.  Please visit http://superschades.org to learn more about the Foundation and ways you can get involved.

3rd Graders Receive Dictionaries
by Gory, Pat

The club's LITERACY PROJECT is underway and the Rotary Club of Oregon/Northwood is organizing the purchase, personalization, and presentation of a special Dictionary to every third grade student in Oregon, Northwood and Kateri Schools.  Each student receives their very own dictionary that is inscribed with their name.  Rotarians volunteer to make the delivery to each student which is coordinated beforehand with the third grade teachers of that school.  Reactions from the children have ranged from awe to surprise and even giggles when they come up to the front of the classroom and are handed their very own dictionary. The children are delighted to be singled out and recognized in the classroom and see their name in print. Rotarians thank you for your support and efforts in this fundraising effort to support the LITERACY PROJECT through Dictionaries to Third Graders!  If you have more questions and want to become involved in this worthy LITERACY PROJECT, please contact Annelle Reed.

25 Years Leaders Partner in Rotary Club!
by Gory, Pat

Rotarians are leaders of the community partnering to make a difference.  In Oregon and Northwood during the last 25 years, Rotarians of Oregon/Northwood have raised over $70,000 to assist community members.   Rotarians are of all ages and professions collaborating and exchanging ideas. Consider learning more about the local Oregon/Northwood Rotary Club by attending any Wednesday morning educational program with complimentary breakfast.

Rotarians take action and make a difference in the world.  Founded in 1912, Rotary International is a service club of approximately 1.2 million Rotarians and locally there are almost 4,000 members in District 6600.  Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide, who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.  The Rotary motto is Service Above Self.

The Rotary Club of Oregon/Northwood includes business leaders making a difference in their community, both locally and globally.  Locally, members provide support for the Eastern YMCA, Food for Thought, Ohio READS, Oregon and Northwood and Kateri School Systems, Salvation Army to name a few.  Members host fundraisers like the Annual Golf Invitational in June and the April 12th event, Paint Away Polio.  Paint Away Polio is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend, learn to paint and help others receive the POLIO vaccine.  Globally, the club has sent Shelter Boxes to assist those victims of the hurricane, helped fund the building of educational centers, and provided clean water for families.

Are you interested in helping others? Do you know a leader that shares your passion in helping others? Or one who could benefit from networking with service oriented volunteers? Maybe you know a local business leader interested in helping children or families in the area?  Maybe you are passionate about helping at one of the Rotary events like Breakfast with Santa?

Join us for complimentary breakfast and educational program any Wednesday morning to learn how leaders are partnering to make a positive impact in Oregon and Northwood!  The club meets at American Table on Wheeling with complimentary breakfast beginning at 7:30am and the hour long meeting beginning at 7:45am.

The Four Way Test
by Gory, Pat

The Four Way Test of the things we think, say or do

1.  Is it the truth?

2. Is it fair to all concerned?

3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?

4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
