Rotary International Conference - Bangkok
by ,, Rtn.Suryanarayana S V

Breakout Session – As Enriching Experience in Rotary International Conference 2012
Rotarians from all over the world who attended the Rotary International 2012 Convention in Bangkok, Thailand, 6-9 May agree that it was  greatest  Rotary gathering on earth. This is 103rd annual Rotary International Convention. The convention was a great way to network with fellow Rotarians and find out what clubs are doing around the globe.  Rotarians seen attending workshops and sessions offered Monday through Wednesday, including Defining Our Global Impact, Webinars Made Easy, Incoming Club Presidents Workshop and Breakout sessions on varied topics.

Rotary E-Club Of District 3150, was one among the 5 Rotary Clubs in India out of total 60 Breakout sessions approved and scheduled by Rotary International for this  Conference. Rotary E-Club  presented a break-out session on "We Walk With Youth" in this Rotary International Convention for 90 Minutes starting at 12-30 pm [ Bangkok Time ie., +7:00 GMT ] on Wednesday, the 9th May, 2012 at Sapphire 109, IMPACT Exhibition and Convention  Center -the venue for more than 32,000 delegates who descended for this Annual conference.

Getting Ready: Panelists [ Left to Right ] Rtr. Thansen, Rtn Sam, Rtn Suryanarayana and Rtn Raavi at entrance of Breakout session hall.

RI Convention program book in page number 39 given details and description and objective about our breakout session as follows:

"Rotary clubs can connect with youth by sponsoring Interact or Rotaract clubs, organizing a Rotary Community Corps, or developing a signature project to enhance the self-esteem of a community's young people. Through their mission — We Must Walk with Youth by Empowering & Encouraging New Generations — panelists from India's first Web-based club, the Rotary E-Club of District 3150, will share how working with youth can bring new energy, inspire fresh ideas for service, increase support to projects, and spread awareness of Rotary in the community."

Promotional Book Marks distributed to the delegates and Posters displayed in House Of Friendship Message Boards & Booths at the Conference venuw brought  more visibility to this breakout session.

The Panelists were: Rtn Suryanarayana SV [ Moderator ], Rtn Sambasiva Rao Patibandla, Past District Governor (2006-07) RID 3150 [ in place of Rtn PDG Dr Vijendra Rao who could not attend Conference] , Rtn Raavi Sreenivasa Rao - President, Rotary Club Of Hyderabad East [ in place of  Rtn TVR Murthy, DGE who fell ill ]   and Rtr. Thansen,  President – Rotaract South Asia and Past DRR from our Rotaract District 3150.

The panel discussion was initiated by Rtn Suryanarayana  who explained  how and  why New Generations, Rotary’s newest Avenue of Service, matters to Rotary and is critical to Rotary club’s success. The intended participants who were Rotarians particularly those already involved with or willing to associate with organizing Interact Club, Rotaract Club and Rotary Community Corps could take a look at finer points of panel discussion to carry useful message to their home Club.

Rtr. Thansen who made his presentation on We Are With You(th) emphasized  the need of Rotarians to involve Rotaractors in their meetings and projects and help Rotaractors in their professional development.

While making a presentation on Youth & Community Service, Rtn Sam  focussed discussion on empowering & encouraging youth in Polio eradication initiatives made the attendees start thinking how to give equal importance to new generations in Rotary’s community projects that benefit the Club as well as Members.

Rtn Raavi Sreenivas Rao who spoke about The Generation Next, talked  about involving Rotaractors & Interactors in leveraging mobile phone technology for literacy programs and rise to the call of RI President Kalyan Banerjee to make South East Asia 100% literate by the year 2017. He has mentioned  that Rotary Club Of Hyderabad East for example would be planning to mount an expedition in January 2013 to cover all 31 Rotary Districts in India to spread the Total Literacy Mission message and showcase a workable model.

A good number of attendee Rotarians, Rotaractors and Youth Exchange students who attend this session got convinced that with the experience they would gain through the Rotary-sponsored programs, make exceptional future Rotarians and may bring change in the outlook of Rotary.

The Questions & Answers by the participants & panelists at the end of the session was lively. This was only Breakout session in RI conference that got honor of providing live webcast to the session proceedings by Rotary E-Club for those who could not get a chance to attend the Rotary International Conference.

Ms Norah Webster, Program Development Specialist, International Meetings,  Rotary International and other staff of RI must be complimented for extending best logistics at the venue including allotting time for rehearsal for the session. Our special thanks to Rtn Raghava, President of Rotary Club Of Secunderabad West for assisting during the session right from taking details of attendees to clicking photos.

In all it was a life enriching experience for Rotary E-Club in conducting this breakout session in Rotary International Conference.

A-Z of weight loss...the STUs of staying slim
Part-VII
S: Slip-ups: Slip-ups are bound to happen.Anticipate them. Instead of letting them derail your efforts, learn from them and get right back on track by simply keeping your eye on your target.
T:Tea: The fat-busting benefits of green tea boil down to disease-fighting compounds called catechins.Max your results by steeping your tea for longer. The darker the hue of your brew, the more catechin-rich the cup.Add some lime to tone down the bitterness.
U:User-friendly: There are a million fad diets around; your friends are probably trying some too.But what helps you lose weight isn't the type of diet but compliance with it. Find a plan you can live with so you'll stick to it.

Look Up Every Day Smile
by ,, Rtn.Suryanarayana S V

Rotary E-Club Of District 3150, India has been leaving smiles around online and offline! In support of Rotary International’s “Million Smiles A Day” Campaign, we provide you Every Day Smile Quotes!

Million Smiles A Day

“The concept is simple: Rotarians—along with their families, friends, and colleagues—should consciously “give” one smile per day through a good deed or gesture to another person, no matter how big or small. As more people commit themselves to undertaking little acts of kindness each day, the global benefit will become enormous.
Rotary clubs are invited to develop their own creative ways to put this concept into practice each day, and are especially encouraged to have youth participate.”

Every Day Smile Quotes! are a small way of promoting little acts of kindness throughout our own community. So read the following, pass it on to your friends and well-wishers!   Come back daily and Look Up Every Day Smile afresh

Wear a smile and have friends
