Winnakee Announces Hudson River Trail

Jeremy Kane, Lands Manager for the Winnakee Land Trust, spoke to the Rhinebeck Rotary Club today at the Beekman Arms about the Hudson River Trail.

Mr. Kane announced that as a result of recent agreements with the Anderson School and the Dominican Camp that will permit easements through those properties, the system of trails already in place at Mills-Norrie State Park and at the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site will be extended and connected to allow walkers improved public accessibility to those great sites, to the trail area between them, and to dramatic views of the river and the mountains beyond.  A grant from Greenways will also make it possible for the Hyde Park Trails Committee to install signage and make interpretative material available to walkers along the trail. Scenic Hudson, the National Park Service, the New York State Department of Parks, Dutchess County, the Town of Hyde Park and the New York/New Jersey Trail Conference also played a crucial role in making the extension possible.

Rotary Club President J. Louis Turpin said, "I'm pleased to see yet another impressive example of the work being done by Winnakee to protect and preserve the rich natural assets of this part of our county."
